I am looking at annual season tickets from Peterborough to London Terminals.

Could anyone explain why season tickets are only available for GNER-only or Any Permitted? Why is there not an LNER-only option? Is this just historical? Presumably LNER would be incentivised to offer such a ticket if they got all of the revenue instead of sharing it on an Any Permitted ticket?

Thanks in advance!

Yes sorry - GN only or Any Permitted i.e. GN and LNER. So you are saying LNER is the lead operator for Peterborough and therefore cannot offer this ticket by regulation? Thanks for the explanation.

Exactly that. The lead operator is the one that sets the interavailable (Any Permitted) fare for a journey.

There are only a few exceptions to this - and that would include where permission has been given by the DfT for this default rule to be disapplied. This is the case for Milton Keynes to London Terminals, for example, as West Midlands Trains are the lead operator, hence pricing the Any Permitted, but there are also West Midlands Trains only and Virgin Trains only routed tickets.

This is because Virgin Trains used to price this flow, but it was transferred over to WMT's predecessor London Midland when Virgin Trains stopped serving the route as frequently (as many of their peak trains began having pick up/set down restrictions there).

London Midland already had a dedicated fare at the time, but they were permitted to keep it notwithstanding the transfer of lead operator.

But Peterborough to London is not an exception, so your post is unnecessary.
