Stations you've used that are now closed

Do the current trains to Heysham run into the same platforms as they did before it closed in about 1975? If not then I've got Heysham as well (as a very small child). Also (very, very obscurely), there used to be a halt between Carrickfergus and Downshire in Northern Ireland called 'Barn', which I also used as a small child.

There only the one platform at Heysham Harbour.

Morecambe Promenade (closed to make way for an indoor market), and Aldwych on the London underground.

Aldwych, Blake Hall, North Weald, Ongar, St. Marys, Shoreditch, North Woolwich, Silvertown, Custom House, Broad Street, Dalston Junction, Palace Gates, Stratford Market, West Green, South Acton, York Road, Holborn Viaduct are some I can remember!

Egremont in West Cumbria. Technically, it closed to regular passenger traffic in 1947, but for 3-4 years, it re-opened for a school special to/from Seascale from 1964 to '67 or '68.
To that, you can add North Woolwich, Charing Cross (Jubilee), Leamington Spa Avenue, Cockermouth or Keswick (I was too young to remember), Kings Cross Thameslink, Moorgate & Barbican (Thameslink Line) and the stations on the East London Line. If I remember any more, I'll post again.

Quite by chance, as a young lad, I found myself on Keswick station on what was almost its last day of operation. A bulldozer was driving around wreaking havoc with everything, including the beautiful totems. I am not ashamed to say that I jumped down onto what was left of the trackbed and, halting the 'dozer with a raised hand, I salvaged one of said totems. I only wish that I had grabbed some more before they were destroyed. After spending 30years on top of my wardrobe I finally put it up for auction at one of the railway memorabilia sites and obtained a pretty decent sum for it.

To this day I still cannot believe that I had the brass-balled cheek to carry that totem on trains, under my arm, the 100+ miles home including changes at Carlisle and Preston! hock:

Gloucester Eastgate is the earliest victim that I've travelled to/from that has since closed. I was only 4 at the time but I can still remember it - my first ride on a BR train.

Subsequently there have been many. Off the top of my head there's Wrexham Central, North Woolwich/Silvertown etc. Blaenau Ffestiniog (LNWR), Oldham Mumps... and more that I can't currently recall.

Are there any stations that are due to be closed in the next few years? (Sorry if this has already been asked). I know that there have been rumours about some of the less well used ones (Barry Links and Golf Street come to mind), but are there any definate plans?

Only Moorgate Thameslink platforms and Kings Cross Thameslink spring to mind. The only other I can think of is the Old Bradford Forster Square.

Liverpool Exchange - I used to use it regularly (from Waterloo, on the Southport line) in the 1950's and 1960's and I always felt it had a good atmosphere, with plenty going on.

Still, it counts. My dad has a theory that you have to be able to remember all line and station grices in order to be able to count them, but I think that's a load of balls. This came about when I kept dozing off on the early morning Swansea > Shrewsbury train (about 05:00 off Swansea ) one day in the mid '80s, and when I got home I ticked the whole Central Wales line off on the map. He reckoned I should only have ticked off the bits I was awake for, and since I couldn't remember which bits they were, he said I ought to do the whole thing again! Obviously I ignored him, and had I been a bit older, might very well have told him to f*** off!

He is, to be fair, a bit anal about things like this.

Being old there are quite a few. Do Minehead and Watchet in 1970 count when they were BR rather than WSR ? Locally I can claim to Wisbech East and Peterborough East and I did get a lift from one end of the platform to the other on a Gloucester RCW dmu at Hunstanton a few months before it closed - the shortest mileage move ever possibly ?
Elsewhere Alston to Haltwhistle and when I was very young used Whitacre Jn, Shustoke and Kingsbury in the Midlands.

Only ones I've done are Kings Cross Thameslink, Charring Cross Jubilee and Island Gardens. I've also caught a Thameslink from Moorgate, and a Eurostar from Waterloo International. Doesn't really count for this topic, but I was on the last ever Domestic train to leave from under the old Trainshed at St Pancras, and did use the Interim MML station a few times (now used by the SET High Speed services).

Reading this has reminded me of a few...

Old Bradford FS, Oldham Mumps, Oldham Werneth, Kings X Thameslink, Moorgate Thameslink, Waterloo International (Eurostar), Leeds Whitehall, Airbourne Island Gardens (DLR) (I got a shock when I revisited not having realised it was now underground), Shoreditch (LU), Charing X (Jubilee, LU), all of the East London Line - though that's all due to reopen soon, Folkestone Harbour (VSOE). Afraid I'm not adding any new ones to the joint list though.

Yes, Brocklesby. Magnificent station that many a small town would have been proud of, built to serve a population of 1 man and his dog - and the Earl of Yarborough.
Broad Street was a favourite of mine, with the lovely epb-type thingies.
Does it count if i walked through the station when the track was still there? Cowbridge, Aberthin, Maendy Halt, Ystradowen, all perfect little Taff Vale stations now sadly no more (though Ystradowen is, i believe a timberyard)

All 3 are still there, although the seaward one is fenced off. There is only track to the landward one now though, and the roof has been removed from it.

Holborn Viaduct, Broad Street and Kings Cross Thameslink in London, North Woolwich, Cowes and Ventnor, Bournemouth West, Lyme Regis, Lavenham and Long Melford (if changing trains there on the way from Lavenham counts), Manchester Central, Bridport and Dover Marine. Oh, and I went on a railtour to Meeth and Meldon Quarry in the 1970s, I think we got off the train at both so I suppose that counts although I dont remember there being a station at Meldon at the time, I think we just jumped or climbed down onto the ground.

Also I visited East Dulwich on its last day and didn't do as well as LWB (#36) but I did find two old metal "Wrights Coal Tar Soap" adverts which had been dumped over a fence, although they were covered in grime and hardly readable. .
