I understand the Dutch rail group ticket. ( NS Group Ticket) is only available online and costs €30 for 4 people.
I intend travelling on the Dutch rail system in February with my partner.

Is it permitted for a couple to buy a group ticket?

The journeys I intend to make are Amsterdam to Leeuwarden and Leeuwarden to Den Haag. Checking the train fares indicate that each journey would cost €26.50 each

The NS Group Ticket is only available for groups of 4 to 7 people. You can't buy it for less than 4 people, and the names of all passengers have to be provided at the time of purchase.

It's not possible to buy a group ticket for just the two of you.

This offer gives you unlimited off-peak travel in a day for 19.50

I've used it twice now, although the fare was 19.00 last time. You have to register with the offer website and give an address in the countries specified. I gave a fake address in Amsterdam but it doesn't matter as you print your own ticket and you don't get it sent through the post.

Many stations in the Netherlands now have ticket gates installed as part of the "OV-Chipkaart" smartcard ticketing system, so how do they work with group tickets such as these? Does each member of the group have to print out their own ticket to operate the gates, or does the barcode on group tickets tell the gate to stay open long enough for however many people using the ticket to pass through?

Or do groups using such tickets have to go to the ticket office or use the gateline intercom to ask to be escorted through manually (as happens in Britain if you have a valid but non-barrier-compliant ticket, but it seems that in the Netherlands they have made more of an effort to ensure that almost all types of ticket will operate the gates)?

The ticket allows passengers to board and alight at different stations, so surely each passenger needs their own barcode for the gates.

Everyone has their own ticket with their own barcode. At every station there is at least one of the gates equipped with a barcode reader, with a few stations having all gates equipped.
