Does the issue with DOO equipment on the IETs mean that 158s will continue for longer on their current diagrams?

Pretty much yes. The delays with refurbishing the 2+4 HSTs also have a huge impact on allowing Turbos onto Pompey-Cardiff services.

I thought turbos couldn't get into pompey yet anyway? Or has that issue been sorted now?

The work was expected to be done during a possession of Portsmouth in early December. I’d be surprised if clearance runs were needed again if the problem has been rectified.

LNWR is my way of shortening London NorthWestern Railway.

When we're talking about the current operator, https://www.londonnorthwesternrailway.co.uk/ has in its logo (on three lines) London / Northwestern / Railway, with the LNR down the left hand side (and note also no capital W), … so it's probably ideal to use that nomenclature when referring to the modern TOC, … to maximise information transmission and to avoid confusion with the actual LNWR which existed between 1846 and 1922 before merging into LMS (wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London_and_North_Western_Railway).

What has this got to do with GWR 165/166 Diagrams ?

Can you expand on the restrictions please? I’d be interested to find out.
They are banned from the following.

Plats 3,4 and 5 at Harbour
Plats 3 and 4 at Southsea LL
Portsmouth and Southsea Down Carriage Sdgs
Platform 3 at Fratton (including the Down Main from Fratton East Jct to Portsmouth and Southsea.)
Fratton No 1 reception road and Back road.
Fratton Depot.

I wonder if the headcode will be different as a reminder to the signaller that the incoming Portsmouth service is a suburban turbo and so it needs to go into platform 1.

So we'll be seeing more use of the bidirectional features of P2/3 at Fratton?
I can imagine that planning for services to routinely to swap across to the other platforms would be a pain and a potential source for knock on delays when GWR services are late.

Which one is the Down Main? Is that the middle one or the outer one?

Is the problem with the ground signals that the driver cannot see them from the turbos, or that there is a gauging issue and the train would take one to the next station as a souvenir?
Are the restrictions to Portsmouth likely to stay in place for a long time, or will the powers that be be able to make alterations to allow for some of them to be lifted?

The problems with the GPS were gauging, not visibility.

Some of the other restrictions are being worked on, some will remain. You rarely get a “clean” certificate first time round.

P3 is the down main, but reversible also. There's 3 usable roads from Fratton to Ports.SS, so I don't think there would be too much likelihood of a late runner getting in the way. (P1 excepted for Turbos obviously)

The earlier poster referred to “P1 at Fratton including the down main, etc” - perhaps this should have been P3? Seems an odd use of the word ‘including’ otherwise...

It could have meant up main rather than down main? Or as you say possibly P1 & P3.
