Ive just come across this in the local rag....

Gavin and Stacey star Mathew Horne was treated by paramedics after being "struck" by a train near a level crossing in Burton Joyce.

The actor, who played Gavin Shipman in the BBC sitcom, was walking to his parents' home from the Lord Nelson pub, in Chestnut Grove, when the incident happened just after 10.30pm on December 20, reports the Daily Mirror.

Horne is not thought to have been seriously injured and was escorted away from the area by emergency services...

Sad to hear this, and I’m surprised he’s not been on tour with Catherine Tate.... certainly he featured in the show (Nan’s Grandson) when I saw it.

It was the front page story on several red tops yesterday. I think they went more for the "drunk, washed-up ex-tv star has an accident" angle rather than any suggestion it was a deliberate attempt at ending his life.

I'm sceptical as to how someone can get hit by a train on a footpath crossing without serious injury? Surely the train would have been travelling at a fair speed?

Luck. It clipped him and bounced him clear.

The foot crossings in that area are known for misuse/near misses/fatalities.

Sources?

I can't find a single use of the words "drunk", "washed-up" or "ex-tv star" in any reports of the incident. Except here of course.

This "ex-TV star" will be seen in a new episode of a comedy drama in January.

GAVIN and Stacey star Mathew Horne cheated death when he was hit by a train in a boozy mishap on a night out.
It's more implied than explicit but the printed copy makes much of the fact that his ex comedy partner James Corden has gone on to be a big star in the US while Horne's career has stalled somewhat. Throw in a couple of pictures of him looking rough and hungover and the implications are clear.

Whether Matthew Horne has alcohol or mental health issues isn't for me to say but clearly going on drunken benders then running out in front of a train is not healthy behaviour. I hope he gets whatever help he needs.

The cynic inside me agrees with this. There seems to be no limit people may go through to get publicity even though it may be negative.
