I have been argueing with my stepdad that it takes less than an hour on the fast train to Paddington from Reading but he is convinced it takes an hour. How long does it actually take to get to Paddington on the non stop HST From Reading to Paddington.

About 35 minutes. Would get a definate answer by looking at the timetables on the FGW site though.

Common to have to wait outside or in Reading after arriving "early" (ahead of the public timetable anyway). The journey time magically lengthens by about 5-10 minutes after around 10pm as well.

Well Reading, along with Woking are known as the Snooker Centres for a very good reason.

Check National Rail fares and timetable. You will find fast trains (HSTs) take betweem 25 to 30 mins for a non-stop journey on this route.
