To return to the original post, why is money being spent on a station that barely receives any services?

I was thinking that perhaps installing at smaller stations is an easy to way to trial the technology before rolling out into larger stations... If there turn out to be issues with the LEDs or the installation process, it's far easier to rectify at a small two-platform station.

But from the press release, they've installed them all over the place, including busy mainline stations like Ipswich and Colchester.

I can only presume that replacing a few lamps at Buckenham makes for a more impressive number in the press release headlines, and as they're likely bulk ordering the lamps by the hundred, isn't too expensive.

Roughton Road, Gunton & West Runton already have brand new TVMs along with excellent digital display screens. All very impressive as you roll in to these stations with around 15k punters per year each.

Could they be changing the lights to do with new trains? Down here in Hampshire LED lighting upgrades were done between Havant and Southampton to improve visibility for Southern 377 unit’s bodyside cameras.

I don't know, perhaps a battery box located at the rear of the platform with a direct feed to a twin bracketed column kitted out with a couple of LED lanterns (with solar panel to recharge said batteries) could work a treat, perhaps something for Coombe Junction too and other rural railway stations with no mains access!

Full digital departure screens now up & running at Lakenheath. They have very little to display outside the weekend

Definitely not. The adjacent ground frame huts have floodlights (or at least No. 2, Moorswater end) which appear to be mains powered. The supply cable seems different to the solar panel system, anyway. Can’t think they get used very much, though!

Those screens I've seen at some other more lightly used GA stations as well - they're pretty small to say the least, but that's not so apparent in the photos.

When those lights are dim though they are very dim, the two local platforms in Cambridge feel quite dingy at night since the dimming seems to be triggered by a lack of movement rather than passenger presence, seen a few people comment that they're so dark it doesn't feel comfortable.
