As a big Class 465 "Networker" fan I much prefer the original B.R.E.L motors which give them there distinctive sound the Hitachi ones sound crap but are giving them better reliabilty satatistics.

Still I much prefer the B.R.E.L ones they sound much better but that is not the point really the Hitachi ones are making them more reliable and as an enthusiast I have got to see the commuters point they want a train that wont fail on them.

Is that the miles per casualty figure / MP5MD? Surely not? Does anyone know what the MPC of the Hitachi-ised units is?

There should be a full list of fleet MP5MD stats in the January 2010 issue of Modern Railways. In any case, the figures in that press release are merely for the traction packages and not the trains.

If any UK train (let alone a Networker) managed 1 million MP5MD today it would be (at least one of the) topic(s) of the month! (Unless someone knows something I don't...)

They still have the Brush motors.. its the inverters which have been swapped. The Brush inverters were very early technology, and were unreliable while Alstom's gear was more reliable.
