today I will mostly be at home decorating
Only benefit I can see is the fact that they are closer to the concourse.

What was platform 1 is now a staff car park, platform 2 and 3 were turned into north and south bays when the walkway to platform 4 was built to comply with disabled access.
The north end of platform 2 was raised for easy loading of mail containers so is no longer suitable for passenger use without rebuilding, the south end of 2 has very narrow access from the new walkway, the north end of 3 was used to stable royal mail coaches and the south end of 3 is used by the Gunnislake service.
The 5 through platforms are more than able to handle the services that call at Plymouth so why do they need any more platforms?
All the above information would be freely available if you spent 5 minutes there and THOUGHT about it!
PS Plympton used to have a station, why don't you start another moaning thread about why FGW haven't re-opened it!

I've used it on a terminating service from Exmouth

How long ago though? AFAIK nothings been timetabled in there for a while. It used to be the 16:27 that went from there, to avoid an SWT service, but with SWTs 2004 rejig all the daytime Exmouths go to/from St Davids
