Do you think CrossCountry will ever manage any stations?

They should manage Burton on Trent, Willington and stations on Birmingham-Peterborough that only they use

I would add some of those that they are the majority caller on that route as well such as Stamford, Oakham and Melton Mowbray. Even bigger stations such as Cheltenham & Gloucester where they are the majority operator.

Very True. What do you think about Plymouth station though?

XC only normally operate 1 train per hour from Plymouth, First have an hourly service to London along with local trains so are by far the majority operator. For that reason it should stay with first.

What exactly is wrong with First's management of Plymouth station? Clearly you can do a much better job!

With regard to minority operators EMT run Sheffield yet Northern have far more trains each day. I guess the logic is that they want an inter-city operator of the larger stations?

I just think he hates FGW with a chip on his shoulder!

Well in that case, the opposite certainly applies for Stevenage as the only area where East Coast is, is in their booking office in the concourse.
Don't know why East Coast just use a enlarged FCC one seeing as FCC manage the station?

I can sort of see that logic, but XC is supposed to be an Inter-City operator, now I am going to have a look to see if Transpennie express manage any stations. I shall start with Malton as I think it is the only one exclusively on thier network.

commission, just like a KX with operator specific office. I know it is closer to platforms 9 - 11 but you need to go a long way out your way if your train is in the main shed..

CrossCountry should manage all the stations that only they call at and then get Plymouth. They deserve more than an office on Platform 8 :p

Why should EMT look after a station where XC calls at all the time?

because they inherited them from Central Trains (who used to run the Birmingham-Stansted/Nottingham services which call at these stations)

until fairly recently, XC were also the only operator to call at Spondon (managed by EMT)

Probably makes a lot of sense logistically in terms of administration if the station is in an EMT-dominated area. Otherwise XC would end up running the odd station all over the network for th esake of a fairly small number of services a day, which isn't very practical in terms of staffing and administration.

Fair enough but XC should 'clear up there own mess'

But XC are a useless operator run by an equally useless company. :o
I may not like First but at least it has some idea how to run a rail company.

Yes they do operate stations, for some reason I thought that these were still Northern stations, but a look in the national rail guide shows they do operate stations. Sorry I didn't edit my original post got sidetracked...

...the strange thing with First is that they are decent at running train operators (and at running Plymouth station :D), whilst they run their bus operations into the ground. Weird

But we all know that some councils are more pro rail than others. Plus Clackmannanshire would need to have a department just to do one statuion - not even a full time job!

And management might be a bit of a hassle; Buckinghamshire would manage Cheddington but the stations either side would be managed by Hertfordshire!

I'm also sure the station staff wouldn't be too happy about losing some of their benefits too.
