When the Elizabeth Line opens, Farringdon will become the nearest approximation London has to a Hauptbahnhof. But it doesn't have any useful bus connections. Do Forum members think there is any prospect of getting TfL to improve that?

While it'll become an important interchange point I don't really agree that it will become much like a 'hauptbahnhof'. But in any case, what kind of bus connections were you thinking of and why?

The 172 was diverted at Ludgate Circus to Clerkenwell Green last year supposedly in anticipation of Crossrail, but I think you'd wait an eternity for any more new links: indeed, some other nearby bus routes might well get cut. We'll have none of these fancy German integrated transport ideas here, than you, we're British. Eyes roll.

In the recent consultation TfL is proposing to withdraw the 172 north of Aldwych.

In its place the 40 would be extended to Clerkenwell Green.

Whilst not stopping at the Station entrance, routes 8, 17, 25, 46, 55, 243 and 521 all pass pretty close.

Even fewer new links then, given the 40 is a shorter route

Thanks for comments above. To me, the suggested stops (including the 63, during its current temporary diversion) seem a long schlep from Cowcross Street. And isn't TfL about to suppress this part of the 45?
