Looking for AP tickets between Liverpool and Sunderland on Sat 6/2/2010 - arriving by 2pm, returning about 5:30pm

I'm aware fares are sparse for Sunderland, so I've started searching for Newcastle - then I'll just get the metro.

NREs cheapest fare finder got me £11.20, but when I try to buy it, it's £57

Help?

You have a railcard, don't you?
In which case, you can use the Transpennine website to get the 50%-off offer, but you won't be able to buy an advance ticket through to Newcastle.

You can either split them at York, and buy from the Transpennine website, or buy through tickets from the EC website (specify Transpennine trains only) and ask Transpennine to refund the difference in vouchers between the 33% and the 50% off that you should have got. (They have offered to do it for me).

It's currently showing as £17 single, so should be £17 total with the Transpennine student discount.

If you split at York, you can choose another operator for the rest of the journey, but TP will be cheapest, and they can't argue if you miss your connection.

...actually, just split at York - there is very little difference in price and EC will be quicker and more frequent in case of delays.

I love the way people know why I'm going places!

The theory is that it can't possibly be that bad again....can it?

Thanks Tony!

Im doing the opposite journey this Saturday. Hopefully (for me anyway:lol:) it can be that bad;)

What about Grand Central On board fares from York to Sunderland. Depart York 1000 arrive 1150, dep Sunderland 17.30 arrive 1916. Only £16 and can be bought on the train. Suppose it depends if it fits with your itinary and if you can get a cheap return from your starting point to York.

You definitely dont have to be a student to use this offer do you? Cant see it mentioned on their website, just says the railcard. Looks handy for a gig in Feb.

Nope, you don't have to be a student but you need a railcard and you need to book it from the student page :)
