Competition 347 :: Orange Bods

Photos must contain at least one railway employee, wearing orange railway PPE, working on the railway. Station staff do not count.

The idea behind this comp is, obviosly, orange suited track workers, but there are, of course, non-UK members on here too.

Thus: Whilst I've called the competition "Orange bods", feel free to submit pics of yellow bods or whatever the equivalent colour of railway PPE is in your country.

Good luck on distinguishing between station staff in orange and staff on a station in orange. It's something different, an whilst I'm fortunate enough to have some possible entries, it's a bit of a far fetched topic. Especially considering the stick I got for choosing AC electrics.

Hi guys and gals,

To the doubters: As 73110 said, it's different. Everyone takes photos of trains and to have something completely different may liven things up a bit and get people out of their "comfort zones" (Good expression 73110!)

I won this competition with a picture of engineering and orange bods - It evidently got people's attention! So, lets see what a subject devoted to them yields. After all, this forum is called "railuk forums", not trainuk forums!

As GB said - it's not just the same old same old...

I'm sure I'll get a few entries and I'm sure the voters will decide what truly counts or does not count.

And lastly, to almark - As one of those orange bods myself, I thought I'd force you to take note of the fact we do exist and we are interesting! Probably...

Just remember people - it's all for fun!

Mr Moo, I genuinely hope I'm proved wrong! From my point of view, it's traditional to cut out the HV brigade cos they have a habit of detracting from your shot by drawing your eyes (as the viewer) away from where the photographer intended them to be so that's why I feared that there'd be a dearth of entries. As it stands, I'm pretty sure I have nothing to offer this competition and it'll be a right old game to try and get something before Sunday!!! We shall see what occurs!

A very good call by the Moderating team if I may say so. There is far more and much more interesting subjects than just the usual 3/4 train views.

Mr Moo, I genuinely hope I'm proved wrong! From my point of view, it's traditional to cut out the HV brigade cos they have a habit of detracting from your shot by drawing your eyes (as the viewer) away from where the photographer intended them to be so that's why I feared that there'd be a dearth of entries. I was qualified as a TO (but only to L2) many years back, but there's no need for formal certification in the office. However, I am chief stressing engineer in my office, so yes, feel free to ask!

Yes, that's exactly what I put in as my winning text - they have just copied and pasted exactly. I admit I'm probably 65% office and 35% site, but I still see myself as an "orange bod"

I'm actually fairly interested in this one for a change, being an orange bod and former photography student. The problem is getting an acceptable photo from an iPhone camera

At least a few photos from the orange brigade ourselves ought to show the railway as not normally seen; bits missing, rails cut out, engineering trains and machines actually at work and not in transit. However cliched the image may be, it's still cool to see an extended exposure snap of rail being disc cut in the dead of night.

I usually set the theme exactly as the winner writes it, although it is sometimes changed.

This is a really good point--it's easy to get trapped into taking the same picture over and over, just with a different train. I think that the challenge is that photographers usually try to avoid this type of photo. To be perfectly honest I don't think I've got any photos that meet the criteria, but I've only been doing this for a short time. I'm excited to see what others have to offer, and if I see a chance before Sunday I'll wait until they are in the shot rather than cropping them out.

This is a good example--an interesting photo (I'm always a fan of night shots) but made more interesting by the folks in orange. Also, the inclusion of some equipment that might not ordinarily be photographed adds to the photos. I'm quite interested to see what comes out of this.
