Thats probably why 16657 came back today from repaint and 16877 has gone up(please flood this one).

Where is 16877 heading after repaint? Glad to hear 16657 is back is it ready for service?

An update to my early posting, about the missing policeman.

A hero police constable swept away when a bridge collapsed during the floods as been confirmed dead. His body was found by rescue workers washed up on a near-by beach.
Pc Bill Barker, 45, had been directing motorists away from Northside bridge in Workington, Cumbria, when the bridge collapsed and he disappeared into the swollen waters of the River Derwent

18372 on 1620 555 - actually on time for once!
The A6070 at Burton Thistle FC has finally flooded (this always happens when it rains heavily, can't believe it's taken so long)
Also, Gez was getting a bit of an earbashing from some rather irate passengers as I was getting on the 555.

A check of the Environment Agency website at lunchtime revealed that the Rivers Bela, Kent and Lune have all been taken off floodwatch, with levels expected to fall again.

Very close call indeed. Hopefully lessons will be learned from the events of the past few days. Theres no such thing as to much preparation. Lets just hope that all those effected are OK and we don't see any more fatalities over the coming days.

Will be interesting to see where 16877 ends up. Could it be Cumbria seeing as 16874 is staying up there right?

One wonders how long it will be before the bridge is replaced. Workington cannot really afford to be without it.

Seems a little out of place putting my observations in at this point in time, given the dramatics of the previous days events, hopefully everything will be sorted out in time for a Christmas celebration, give people a chance, not to really celebrate, but ... well i dont really know how to explain it, it seems like a good target to aim for, get everything sorted, have a good time, put the bad times behind, then start the new year with a fresh start..

My condolences to the family of the Police Officer who lost his life making sure others stayed safe, but, without wanting to sound callous, at least he was the only fatality that i am aware of, it could have been worse..

Anyway, of note at Preston, 18154 and 18159 both operating on the 1 - Longridge
18156 on the 3 - Penwortham

and 18148 looking resplendent in the new coast liner branding, (or at least it did from the back in the dark sandwiched between two other buses on Preston bus station) unsurprisingly looking like the 125 branding only bluer and not so 'urban connect'-ish

So with all these Tridents going to Preston where are the Olys going now the PB deal has fallen through?

20544 and 20735 on 3/4

It's an interesting one; a few are staying in Preston to release buses back to the PB, but the rest seem to be being moved internally within NW...

So one would assume they will replace Leylands and a pair will go to Chorley?

They could of course go to Cumbria and get rid of Leylands. BA KL etc

no it just wants the retrimmed seats putting back in.

Obviously, services in and around West Cumbria are still severely affected. The 300 is still operating the a fore mentioned route as far a Maryport. There is a limited "Cockermouth X5" service in operation, this is being run by Optare Solo PX04 DMU. As such there are no services running to Seaton, this will continue for sometime. Also, I have been told about many concerns in the relation to the structure of our bridges. Firstly, the bridge from the A66 into Broughton has been closed, apparently structurally unsound. Also, the bridge over the Greta when approaching Keswick from the West (The one just along from High Hill Garage, opposite the Pencil Museum!) is closed. I'm told that it will require some major work before it can be re-opened, therefore affecting the X5 Service. And finally, I'm told that Workington Bridge (bottom on Calva Brow) has erm, "shifted a bit" So we'll just have to see what happens!

Ahhh so 16877 is a direct replacment for 14204. Have they decided which vehicle will get the green livery?

Good stuff about 16657. Just 16662 left (and 16664/65 if they stay)

I don't know anything about flying buses!!!, But i heard a rumour that Stagecoach, are to hire in some barge's for X4/X5 service.

20909 Sat on Maryport Spar/BP forecourt at 19:25 tonight with confused looking driver in the cab on his phone... "Not In Service 000" on the flip dot. Obviously prepping for departure back to CE on the 300.

Getting reports via various sources that Calva Bridge in workington has now given way to the river... can anyone confirm this?

According to BUSES magazine- Iain Souter has died aged 92.

He lent his son, Brian, £12,000 in 1979 to start his own bus company.

The rest -as they say- is history.

RIP Iain - you've given us the best big bus company in the UK.
