Does anyone have any info on the station which is not on nationalrail.co.uk and Wikipedia? As far as I can find out the station is run by Northern, but the land it sits on is Corus owned. So does that mean if you get off you're tresspasing straightaway?

The reason I ask is that it looks as if it will be moved and renamed when the Tees Valley Metro comes to fruition. I'd like to pay a (legal) visit one day just to record it and get some photos. The line is usually quite good, but getting pictures can be hard due to the steelworks and other industry.

Geordie back from exile.
In the National Rail timetable it has a footnote of something like § For authorised access only to BSC Redcar so it doesn't say you can't visit, just you need to be authorised to visit. It might be worthwhile asking for permission from BSC Redcar for a visit to the station but getting there and back is going to be a bit difficult, at least by rail.

There are only 2 trains a day Monday - Friday that stop there.

The 0705 Darlington - Saltburn drops by at 0738 and the 1630 Saltburn - Bishop Auckland at 1646.

No other stoppers or any at all on Saturday or Sunday, they all just pass through.

Ahhh...Rather Like Lympston Commando Then...Currently you have to be of Roayl Navy or Royal Marines to get off and on there...although i think you can ask to request permission to take photos there, from the Royal Marines...

Although i think this is about to change when the Exe Trail opens fully along the lineside, as it does run down the shore end of lympstone commando and right through the station-commando enterance...

Albiet is the only difference is Lympstone Commando is far more regularly served than Redcar...

The last time I went through that station (in August this year) it looked pretty shabby. I had to check it was still open.

I understood it to be similar to IBM halt in Scotland, but haven't really heard if anyone has actually been allowed to get there. It's quite a basic station, but it seems to be used by soome people (around an avergae of 1 per day I think from the figures on the net). Going past on the train to Saltburn there is another station which is closed, which looks a bit older. Supposedly this was shut when the new one was opened but can't really find much info on that one either.

That is the old Grangetown station which served the steelworks alongside and closed in 1991.

There isn't a great deal of information available about it but there is a cracking picture of when it was open, showing a DMU calling there and an equally good picture showing it in it's present state.

Cheers for the links. Any idea what the line to the right in the older picture was used for?

It is still there. Slow lines that run from the new South Bank station to just east of Grangetown, they serve Teesport and generally have Cleveland Potash loads from Boulby to run around. This means that a trail of rock salt is evident along them.

Sorry, meant the one to the far right (on a hill it seems). I think I can make out a signal but on the newer picture the land seems to have been flattened.

Apologies, didn't realise you meant that one.

That line is still there, in the "modern" shot we are looking from the other direction and the line is still there to the left and then crosses over the Saltburn line on that bridge that can be seen in the background. It is still used and serves the steelworks on the right.

IIRC you don't need permission to get there, since it's part of a reasonably accessible industrial estate. One by one, however, industries have left the site, so it's no surprise there are fewer and fewer passengers.

Right, going by Wikipedia and National Rail it is a bit ambiguous. Is the land there still owned by IBM or d the public have right of way?

National Rail. Prestwick Airport is the only non-NR owned station on the network in Scotland, I believe. You can disembark the train at IBM, but possibly not leave the station. At Lymmington Commando you can't even disembark without having 'business' at the camp.
