Isn't it having some major work done to it, adding a toilet iirc.

Was removed from traffic in July for assessment before transferring to WMT.
Even if they have completely refurbed the whole unit, it shouldn’t take 5 months.

But as it’s been out of use now for 5 months, does this qualify as long term out of use?

Or the ex-ScotRail Turbostars that GTR took 12 months to repaint, change seat covers and carpets and change the couplers on to make them 171s.
There were multiple Turbostar's and only one 155 . They should really have replaced them with Anglia's 156's but that's a story for another thread.

Those 156s weren't expected to be coming available at the time Arriva were devising their fleet plan for Northern.

They could have electrified the Uckfield line faster than that. Hmm, on second thoughts, maybe not!

350403 has been out of traffic since Monday 5th November after hitting two horses north of Carlisle. Substantial damage was done to the leading carriage, and much under frame equipment damaged. The unit was stood for 6 hours whilst repairs made to shift the unit out of the way.

It is at Ardwick depot now, but repairs haven’t started yet.

As only 10 350s are with TransPennine Express, 9 were needed daily in service, it has left TPE short.

1> Considering this leaves TPE short of a 350 why haven't repairs started yet? I would have thought TPE wouldn't want to be short of a unit especially at this time of year so would have hoped repairs could be started sooner rather than later especially considering it happend on 5/11 and now its 28/11 and nothing has happened.

2> How bad is the damage I can't say I've seen photos and what's the hold up starting the repairs?

3> Will the repairs to the unit be done at Ardwick or will the unit be sent away to be repaired?

4> How long will the repair take and when will the unit be back in service?

TPE need to repair the 350 at some point before they go off lease, unless it's going to germany for repairs like the 350/2s in the south parkway accident did.

TPE is short, critically as usually 185s deputise but they are also short of 185s (hence the Northern sublease of 170s). I’m not sure how long these things take to sort but it needs to be assessed and estimates provided. Then insurance companies need to get involved, no doubt squabbling over who pays. Network Rail pick up the delay bill for animals on the line, but who pays for the damage?

From the pictures I’ve seen the gangway is bent, doors caved in. Coupler and was electrical box bent. Leading bogie steps are bent. Plus there was significant equipment damage underneath that caused the unit to be a failure, so that can be anything from brake rigging to auxiliary converters.

Ardwick is the main depot for TPE but they will be limited on repairs. 185s that have been damaged have been sent away by road. Unknown what will happen. As for how long repairs will take? All depends on the damage!

It was worthy of listing as a long term out of use unit as it will soon have been out for a month.

Because....
- they need to assess the damage and scope the repair work
- decide who is capable of doing the work
- get quotes for repair
- order materials

Just because repair work hasn’t physically started it doesn’t mean nothing is happening.

I had to attend the incident a few days after to carry out some repairs to the underframe before it could move. It was then taken south at night at low speed.

Very long shift...

Just passed old oak and 332005 is outside near 332014 with at least 2 of the centre coaches on bright yellow accommodation bogies.

332014 seems to have been shunted to a different siding a bit closer to the shed, but still looks very sorry for itself.

On the same road as 014, shunted right up to the buffer stops, is another unidentifiable 332 with a 'not to be moved' notice mounted upon it. I assume this is 005, as I still haven't seen that in service this year.

332014 and 332005 are both Stopped on Old Oak HX. The intermediate vehicles rest on accommodation bogies, and both units have had many parts stripped.

Thanks for the clarification - barring surprising developments, it looks like my total number of 332's travelled on will remain at 12 then.

I was travelling along the M1 today around Watford Gap and saw a Cross Country 220 or 221 driving motor heading south on a low loader. I was unable to get the number but it had a broken window replaced with a plywood panel. I assume this was the Derby fire victim of a few months ago - I'm not sure where it was going, possibly Wolverton?

Can anybody fill me in with the number of the Derby victim please.

221127 was the unit involved (my last one required to travel on, hangs head in shame).

I can't remember if it was on this forum or elsewhere, but I'm sure I read somewhere that the driving car which was worst affected by the fire would have to go to Ilford before re-entering service - perhaps that was the destination?
