In all the photos I've seen of the new HSM milling machine on track plant, it's only ever being dragged by GBRF locos, does this track machine not have the ability to run on its own on the mainline?
I think some machines of this nature are self powered but only just enough for the working speeds within the worksite, but they can be hauled between jobs at much higher speeds. In all the photos I've seen of the new HSM milling machine on track plant, it's only ever being dragged by GBRF locos, does this track machine not have the ability to run on its own on the mainline?
Okay thanks for the infoI think some machines of this nature are self powered but only just enough for the working speeds within the worksite, but they can be hauled between jobs at much higher speeds.

Looking online it has a self propelled speed of 100kmh so could feasibly move under its own power between locations. In all the photos I've seen of the new HSM milling machine on track plant, it's only ever being dragged by GBRF locos, does this track machine not have the ability to run on its own on the mainline?

Is one reason main line driver route knowledge? Presumably working in a possession is subject to different rules? It has the ability to move like any other tamper or track machine but for various reasons that facility is not used
