Hello all a small preservation society has been set up to preserve a unusual loco or a celebrity loco with a unique livery or nameplate. There are already three members myself, Crossforth and 37401. We have two ideas for bases namely the East Anglia Railway Museum at Chappel & Wakes Colne and Barrow Hill. We 'd welcome more members with open arms and even if you could only donate a small amount any contribution would be grateful. If your interested just reply to this post. Thanks. :)

And what is wrong with saving up?
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
There is absolutely nothing wrong with what we are doing.

We are merely giving people a chance to try and help us save a loco.

If you have a problem with, it's tough, get over it.

Could you post a copy of your constitution? I'm afraid at the moment and without one or anything else credible you sound like a group of dreamers saving up their pocket money. BDLPG Mk 2?

Oh no... :(

Ah. Bit of a marketing issue there. Foot-Aim-Bang.....

The BDLPG had a similar attitudinal problem and it is natural that people will make comparisons. All the very best but you do need to assure people that you have a serious intention.

And at the same time, I'm merely giving my opinion on your scheme. If you have a problem with, it's tough, get over it.

PS Have you even researched how much the rent is at Barrow Hill per week? Or do you think you can use the facilities there for nothing?

Its far from easy to do this.

Your website needs to have a domain name of sorts and looking neat and professional.
Be prepared to attend events such as gala's and open days / weekends in all weathers. You need a good tradestand with polite people prepared to spend there time on the cause 100% and in there own time. You will receive more income from attending events, showing people who you are, rather than hoping people will send you money over the net. Also, you need the transportation and sometimes accomodation too.

Get yourself quotes from suppliers who can creat merchandise. This again will be the most income you shall receive on the internet and 100% income at tradestands.

Make sure there is some kind of managment structure in place, who is responsible for what and when.

A company bank account is also advisable, in the groups name of course.

Memberships are better than donations, at least the member can get something in return for there joining fee. E.G. newsletters, special offers, membership items etc.

Advertising is key, we are regularly featured in Rail Express for example, but be prepared to pay before you can receive.

Buliding relationships with other groups, private railways and companies is also important.

Create leaflets and email railways to see if they would be prepared to include them in there leaflet stands.

If your serious guys, get your heads together in person, drum up ideas.

Hope this helps.

I'm sorry - this sounds like a joke to me.

A preservation group who will preserve anything, who think that they could get somewhere like Barrow Hill for free, AND who also expect to get support.

give it up. my money is going towards respectable preservation groups - for instance the AC locomotive group.

If I donated any money - and that is unlikely - then I would want to make sure that they are a registered charity; that there accounts are held proffessionally, and that my money won't end up in someones back pocket when they realise it isn't a good idea.

And where did AC loco group start?

They haven't always been so big with so much money.

But if that is your attitude, we don;t want your money.

Yes, groups do start small (I can remember the WLA canvassing for help and support on Bristol TM back in the '70's.) What people do look for is a structured group with clearly defined aims and objectives. You really do need to give this some thought. Statements such as ..."we don't want your money" do little to help the cause.

I was thinking perhaps at the beginning of this that it might work...futher reaing into it, the cracks are appearing...

And look at where the AC loco group are now...Yes, A ever increasing group founded in 1996 and now with ten AC locomotives and 73138...

So would you like to look at there website...rather nice isnt it...

http://www.aclocogroup.co.uk/index.php

Sorry but if you actually are serious, you cant continue like this...have you even read and considerd the costs involved...IE 60004 lochnagars post...

Have you ever any doubt about how much a place like Barrow Hill chargess for rent? Ive an idea and let me tell you...Its very very not cheap...Your looking in the region of £500 a day...Barrow hill is a serious business you know, and they charge rates like that for proper people involved in the railways, like HNRC for example...There not out there to cater for anyone and everyone with a preservation idea...

And im sorry, but at the moment youve got the customer service level of Cross Country or NXEC...If that...

And D107...Well Said...

Let's clear a few things up

We are merely a group of people who are currently looking into the idea of preserving a loco.

We know this isn't going to be cheap and after contacting Barrow Hill, we found this out. NXEA is currently in talks with EA railway museum and we may be coming to a cheap agreement.

In regards to members, we are just saying this is what is happening with us:
- We are saying that we are setting up a group to try and preserve a loco or multiple unit, if you want to help us please do. If you don't, stay out of the thread unless you have something constructive to say.
- We are asking for some constructive criticism not rude comments

In terms of money, we are currently looking a very large intake of money within the next few days due to a very rich family friend and yes this is real money.

And we are nothing like NXEC; because we do have money.

Well IMO all comments are constructive, the only rude ones were you not wanting people to point out flaws.

And if you are only looking into preserving a loco, would it not have been best to secure funds/see if possible before asking what loco people would like to be preserved? I've seen people do things like that very often (not talking just about Loco preservation, but in general) and then vanish

Shall I go into detail what we are doing then?

- We are a small group of people who are looking into preserving a random locomotive or multiple unit, hence the name of the group.
- We have been asking if anybody if they would be interested in such a group, not for money at this stage.
- We have not decided on a loco as it will be random and it will depend on funds.
- We have currently secured several thousand in funds but not quite enough to buy it outright.
- We are also confirming talks with another group of people about storage of said loco.

Any questions?

How come this is the only forum that there has been idiots replying to threads?

No other forums that we have put this out to have been so rude about this.

I can only see one on this thread.

It seems that you can't take criticism and have therefore had to resort to calling us idiots.

Your not giving any constructive criticism

This preservation is now being left out of RailUK forums

The plan was originally to see who was interested then go from there

Now it's anything to shut you up

Look, now you are really ****ing me off. If you want this to work, you need to be calm and explain, people are giving you constructive criticism but you just dont like it.

To any other members of the group: I strongly urge you have a discussion about who does the talking, God help you if you keep it as crossforth, you'll need all the luck you can get. You not doing yourself any favours by making enemies. Comments like what your making are not going to get you anywhere. Crossforth you really need to learn how to take criticism and calm down. Saying 'we dont want your money wont help you one bit
