If there were no electrification (or 100% electrification) - potential new services?

Hypothetically, imagine the UK with no electrification (or, for arguments sake, complete electrification of one type which all trains could use) - what different services do you reckon there's a (realistic) chance of?

For example, the Wrexham - Shotton - Bidston service would extend beyond to Birkenhead and central Liverpool

The Norwich - Cambridge Turbostars might be linked to Cambridge - London trains, giving a link to the capital to places like Thetford

Stranraer would be served by extensions of the Glasgow - Ayr service (rather than the current slower route through Kilmarnock)

(or, to look at it another way; what potential extensions would there be if these lines were all wired up)

Would make the journey quicker!

But it'd mean no barrier to running more London - Edinburgh trains up to Inverness, for example

It would help the XC routes a lot! I hate long distance routes on a 220/221...

It's an hourly service, so presumably gets some use - they've not downgraded it to once a week just yet
