Short term pain for long term gain.

If 144s can arrive within the next 3-4 months that’ll provide some breathing space both literally and metaphorically for passengers and engeniers.

Still allowing time for all the pacers and 144s to go by NYE 2019.

How are they going to spin it when Skates has announced he's got rid of the Pacers?
Exactly. I doubt it will be announced in a 'look how fantastic we are' TfW press release. Maybe it will be mentioned on twitter when passengers complain of overcrowding.
I'd say take the 142s if those are coming available before Christmas then swap for the 144s in the new year, any strengthening than can happen to alleviate overcrowding and allow the PRM program to get moving is desperately needed. At the very start of the new franchise passengers just want a seat at peak times.

Is there much difference between a 142-143 and a 144? Will all the staff need a day training on them? Is there enough resources to do this? There’s lots of new driver courses going on at the minute so instructors and trainers will be stretched to the limit as it is.

144s are fairly similar to 143s I believe. I’d imagine staff will need some kind of conversion course though.

Without substance.

Or maybe substances were involved?

5 x 2 Car 144s were due off lease from Northern on 16th September but with a caveat any could remain in case of late delivery of replacement stock. They would be useful to TFW to cover for the late arrival of the 769s, if they ever enter traffic at all. There is no testing ever started yet.

Of course managing expectations is the biggest challenge up until January 2020 at least. All you need to do is look at the tweets ATW are currently getting and elsewhere on social media to see that passengers think something magical is going to happen by Christmas (some even think something magical will happen on October 15th), when in fact due to the PRM program things will get worse.
Passengers expecting 6 car trains for their morning commute from October 15th will be very disappointed when the ATW coloured 2 car 142 turns up.

More from the article:

Is it wrong I'm looking forward to their disappointment?!

Good to see a few positive steps from the new December timetable with earlier first weekday services from Aberdare and Merthyr and a few additional Sunday services from Aberdare in the morning and late afternoon making shopping or commuting for retail work in Cardiff more feasible.

Not sure if this has been posted anywhere before, but the website for the operator is live at tfwrail.wales (or tfwrail.wales/subscribe-cy.html in Welsh) and there are also a Facebook and a Twitter account with those names.
It seems that settles the issue of what public name they'll be using. As well as the domain name, there's this on the terms of use page: "Keolis Amey Operations/Gweithrediadau Keolis Amey Limited (trading as Transport for Wales Rail Services)"

Everything will be TfW branded - stations, trains, uniforms, announcements etc.

Although to complain/seek compensation etc - you contact Keolis Amey.

A good way to confuse passengers. As far as they're concerned Keolis Amey has nothing to do with Welsh rail services, they think they're solely dealing with TfW.

ATW ticket app says it won't support purchase of tickets past 12 Oct. Trouble is, 'mTickets' are cheaper than other options. Anyone know if TFW/KA is going to have an equivalent in place in time?

Aren't M-tickets standard across TOCs (that accept them), so any other app e.g. LNR or Northern would work?

Maybe they are referring to the Mobile Multiflex tickets, they are an Arriva Trains Wales product.

They have been very popular since their launch and I believe there will be a similar product available once the new app goes live on the 14th of October.

Also, any bought on the Arriva app will be able to be used up until the 13th January 2019.

I wonder what the NR operator code will be?
AW won't do (though they have been using GR on the ECML since GNER disappeared).
