It’s nice to see they are taking action to address the sorry state of affairs on the North TPE route. I do hope if works out, the stopper is the biggest thorn in my commute, every night my train gets caught behind it.

Passengers who depend on the stoppers are every bit as entitled to a decent train service as you are.

It's those of us dependent on the stoppers who have really suffered.

It’s a lot easier for you to work round a delay on an express that runs every 15' than it is for me to work round the frequent (and sometimes consecutive) cancellations of the hourly stopper creating three hour gaps with no service.

As posted Northern up on RTT post 10/12, the Southports from Leeds are back to calling at Batley.

So they are. They've dropped the Cottingley stops from the Northern trains to make room for Batley. Presumably(hopefully?) TPE will serve Cottingley, but that's going to be a lot of stops for the stopper.

GTR drivers getting their new diagrams through now in preparation for December, nice and early to give unions time to go through and fix issues.

Plan appears to be run the May timetable for weekday services from December but weekends may remain as per the interim timetable. I hope this isn't the case as Saturday's are terrible on the GN route.

How
Leeds to Manchester stopping service to be split at Huddersfield from December timetable change, and Slaithwaite and Batley calls to be switched from Hull service, to improve reliability on both.

Given the number of cancellations, and in particular the number of Hull services being turned round at Stalybridge, it's obvious that the timetable was unworkable and something needed to change. A bit unfortunate that the change couldn't be made now and instead we have to endure a further three months.

If Middlesbrough inbound trains become outbound Newcastle trains at Manchester Airport, how will this work when the MkV sets enter service? Will they go to Newcastle?

The answer to this question is in the Mk5A thread:
Crew training for on board staff starting very soon, so I don't think there will be any delay. Currently the plan is to have 2 trains in service from December on the Liverpool to Scarborough route (6 trains each way per day).

Looking at RTT for 15 December the GN outer timetable on the Cambridge branch seems to be the same as the current Saturday timetable. Friday 14 December is showing the revised timetable with the revised evening Kings Lynn /Ely trains and also some Cambridge/Brighton trains that are currently not running are now showing each hour on weekdays.

The TPE timetables appear to be in RTT.

Lds - Hud - Man stoppers are split. Lds uses platform 6 at Hud and the Man uses 4B. Both generally running to similar times as now. The Lds stopper as picked up Cottingley vice the Northern Southport service. Both the TPE stoppers either side of Hud now run as Class 2 services. The Northern stoppers to from Man at peak times now do funny things by running ecs or in service to Marsden immediately after arrival , then laying over for 30 mins or so in the loop at Marsden. The York service seems to be truncated to and from Lds for most of the day with a much reduced turn round time. Seems to use 6 when the TPE isn't there.

In addition the 0555 from Mcv to Liv is shown as being formed as stock coming ecs from Longsight, not Ardwick as it is now, as is the 0556 from Liv to Sca, which comes ecs from Longsight. Those appear to be the two Class 68 diagrams from December.

Been looking through the December timetable, yet to see any major changes for the MF service, apart from the extra Letchworth stops.

As expected, no second Cambridge/Brighton service - so yet again Thameslink Programme failing to deliver.

Isn't Thameslink like Northern and has been instructed by DfT to not make any major changes until May 2019?

The idea is to run the weekday May timetable from December, but weekends still seem up in the air.

If that works, May could see the services from WGC and Cambridge start through the core.

As usual do view times on RTT post December 9th with a health warning as not being fully finalised until the timetable pdfs appear on TOC websites - most years times that are loaded at this stage on RTT can be incomplete, and can also change in the intervening period.

Last train to Stoke, all stops from Manchester during the week is now 22:18

As this stands it seems some what unusual that stations between Macclesfield and Stoke can have more frequent service at 6am and 10-11pm (M-F) but has lost key peak services between 7am-8am and 5-7pm. On Saturdays the 5-7pm service is better for Congleton than weekdays.

I know that there is still work to be done on this once the Blackpool-Macclesfield/Stoke services launch next year.

From an operational stand point the last 2 peak time changes on weekdays (as ot stands) , do shift passengers south of Macclesfield onto quieter services.

To me the 2218 would be as much if not more useful on a Saturday when the last all operator Stoke service is 2143. On weekdays It leaves roughly 10 minutes after the last CrossCountry service from Piccadilly and half an hour after the usual hourly Stoke stopper.

I am also still somewhat disappointed at the removal of the former 2244 /2250 stopper in May 18, which could have been extended to Stoke Monday-Saturday. Both the 2250 and the 2314 have always been busy services on Friday and Saturday.

The "timetable" says that the new Glasgow - Edinburgh via Cumbernauld will start, meaning that the Glasgow - Falkirk Grahamston trains will be gone (except for the evening) and the Dumbarton - Cumbernauld services will terminate at Springburn and vice versa.

Health warning here is that these timetables had also been loaded in advance of May, only to be withdrawn when it was clear there wouldn't be enough units.

On the MML side of thameslink the December 2018 change will see an improvement of 16 trains in the peak hour up from 15. This means 19 through the core.

Details are available on the track access consultation network rail website.
