I've just discovered a fascinating 1955 article from the Journal of the Institute of Electrical Engineers, which they (now the IEEE) have been good enough to make available free of charge, on the Manchester-Sheffield-Wath electrification:

It's interesting to note that the scheme was first proposed in 1926, but was stalled for ten years by the economic climate, only to be delayed another six by WW2, which also saw some alterations to the scheme so that lighter, faster trains could be run. And the future fate of the line is also indicated - it catered for some 80 loaded mineral trains a day from Yorkshire to Lancashire, but only fourteen passenger trains.
Also contains gradient profiles and locations of substations and track sectioning cabins, and layouts of the EM1 and EM2, for those interested in such things.
