So 18354 has finally failed. Good. A little time off the road should hopefully allow the fitters to diagnose why it always smells so oily - I know drivers keep reporting it, I've seen the defect cards!

The ones that had baylink really do need a repaint 17018/19/22 and 17024, the others have been repainted(17020) or lower panels done. They might start doing them when they eventually get round to putting L.E.D blinds in them.:roll:

The Kendal depot drivers have been trying to get rid off this bus for some time.
It was smelling of overwarm plastic as we settled in upstairs at the bus station.
Getting worse and worse then! I could cope when it smelled oily, but nice and warm, but overwarm plastic really isn't good.
Just proves that
a. Kendal maintainence is poor
b. the Tridents can't cope with the route
On another note, the Competition Comission report should be out in the next to weeks, the statutory deadline is Nov 12, but the CC have imposed their own deadline of the end of October.

The CC have ordered Stagecoach to appoint a Hold Separate Manager. As far as I can tell, this is basically passing the costs on to Stagecoach; ie. the Monitoring Trustee (paid by CC) is replaced by someone paid by Stagecoach.

As far as I can understand, this in no way affects the liklihood of Stagecoach winning or losing the inquiry.

47617 on 51, sounding pretty bad! 47616 wasnt sounding too great on thursday either!
one of M reg B10M's left bus station around 1635, not sure if it was 31 or 300, but it was rather full.
33169 and 34079 on Harrington & Seaton. didn't see the third bus.
20919 on short 300. side and rear flip dots were both blank.
16447 on full length 300.
20757, 20761 and a vario were on annexe when i went past.
one of M reg B10M's left bus station around 1635, not sure if it was 31 or 300, but it was rather full.
33169 and 34079 on Harrington & Seaton. didn't see the third bus.
20919 on short 300. side and rear flip dots were both blank.

Can't vouch for what is on the card, perhaps one of he reasons they no longer work there, but I'm pretty sure it was established a while ago that it no longer goes on what the bus does as far as milegae and EC rules are concerned rather than what the driver does so now they do not work through Kendal it can be done on domestic hours., and our fitter can go out to a Megabus breakdown without the need for a tacho card

I'm very sceptical about the work of the CC - you just have to take their 'hands off' approach to supermarkets to understand that they don't exactly fight on behalf of the "small fellow". I was reading their interim results into the takeover by SC of Eastbourne bus, and whilst the CC - as with the Preston bus scenario - take into account local factors and effect of the takeover vs competition, they don't seem to look at the bigger picture where (for instance) down in the South East, Stagecoach are heading for a large chunk of the market. My feeling is that "Up Above" someone will have a word in someone elses ear and we'll see this investigation and the Eastbourne investigation kicked into the long grass eventually.

There's a bit in this week's Westmorland Gazette about overweight bus drivers not being allowed to drive because of the seats collapsing (mentioned on here a while ago). Trev Pennington, still manager at Kendal, is quoted as saying that he has 5 buses which are affected, and about 6 drivers.
From this I conclude that the problem is with Optare Solos.

Also noted recently that the extra services running between the Uni and Lancaster are been driven by Kendal drivers.
From today the East bound lane of the underpass will be closed for two weeks. All services have been diverted around campus to enter the underpass from the other side.
And lastly:
Stagecoach makes offer for Nat Ex
In the latest twist to the National Express Group (NEG) saga, NEG revealed this morning (Monday) that it has received what it describes as a highly preliminary proposal from Stagecoach to acquire the entire Group in an all-share transaction, with NEG shareholders owning no more than 40% of the enlarged group.
Stagecoach says that further work and analysis is required to determine a precise exchange ratio, the extent to which any equity needs to be issued for cash and appropriate disposals of businesses.
It follows Fridays announcement that the Cosmen/CVC Partners Consortium was abandoning its provisional offer, and Stagecoach saying it was no longer in discussions with the consortium about buying NEGs UK bus and interests from the Consortium.
Stagecoach, which had previously ruled out bidding, said in a statement this morning that any offer will require backing from the NEG board.

They from barnsley i i think its onr of the replacements but no one around when there to find out
ex-Stagecoach Yorkshire Traction, previously Go-Ahead as well I think. Well and truely shafted IMHO. It's the one that was at Chorley last month.
Interesting to hear the Kendal drivers are doing the Uni shuttles - if this continues, it could potentially be a way around the Solos driver weight restriction for them.

We've had Palatine 1s before, I prefered them to the RL bodied Olympians. The interiors seemed lighter and airier when compared with an RL which always seemed dark and cramped - maybe the low ceilings didnt help. I admit those 2 look a bit rough and need a good clean up.

Lancaster used to have 6 N/C bodied olympians 16243/244/245(L24?-SDY) 16629/30 and 16631(P2??-VCK).
16631 was in the golden jubillee livery when transferred from chorley in 2002.

They are here until the road works finish on November 7th, I dont think Martin and Dougie come any where near the weight limit.
As an aside I had to use 17017 on the 1150 Halton after 47248 expired at the Triangle.
1620 Keswick deprted only a couple of minutes late today. Firs time its been off stand before the 1640 Carnforth arrived in I dont know when.

on a side note, i got an email at uni today about a Carlisle Unirider. this is what it said:
"Stagecoach has agreed to provide discounted travel for University of Cumbria staff and students on bus services in Carlisle. The “Carlisle UniRider” tickets are now available. The tickets provide unlimited travel on all Stagecoach services in the Carlisle area and can be bought for individual terms or for all three terms. The three term ticket includes the Christmas and Easter holidays. The term dates and prices are as follows (dates match Further Education terms as these are longer than Higher Education terms):
Term 1: 2 September 2009 - 18 December 2009 (price: £86 – the introduction of the Carlisle UniRider was delayed because of problems with the Stagecoach online sales website with the result that although the term 1 ticket is still available it does not offer savings over two 4 week public ‘MegaRider’ tickets);

According to the 2009 Stagecoach handbook there no P951 PYO, but P915 PYO is listed as being numbered 16874
Which was new to Go-Ahead London as its NV115.

They went down south to one of the depots which caught fire couple of years ago and last i heard they have just been withdrawn from service in scotland. So they`ve been about since they left morecambe.:roll:
