They just slide into an internal pocket - the 'Chiltern' type plug doors plug out & over. This looks like a more reliable, cheaper & simpler (if less aesthetically pleasing) design.

jingsmonty - is there a thread about what it's like to drive a "new" Scotrail HST? I'd be very interested to learn about the technicalities and realities of it, but it's probably not for this thread in any great detail. So maybe, if you're agreeable, one could be set up....?

Same as Voyagers and Pendolinos, where they seem to not work more often than they work. Mind you Voyagers are a late 1990s design, and Pendolinos a late 1990s/early 2000s one - one would hope technology had improved a bit since then!

Its when the electronic displays dont work till after the train has left the station , so you play russian roullette sitting on a seat.

It's supposed to be similar to the type of doors on a Class 156...

The HST project manager put a few pics on Yammer last year of the door system. Its operated by an electric motor turning a threaded rod located in a fixed "nut" on top of the door and it basically "screws" the door open or shut at relatively high speed. Its similar to the sliding doors mechanism on the new toilets fitted in the 156s.

Hopefully they'll be extremely reliable and close at a steady pace unlike some of the 156 ones that slam shut that fast they'd chop your arm or leg off if caught in them!

I haven't seen a dedicated HST Driving thread....not sure I'm the best person to speak about the driving techniques, as, although I've driven it, my driving time has been extremely limited (as will probably be the same for most Scotrail Drivers who've passed out on them) - I've driven it once, since I passed out in June!

I'm sure if there are any other HST qualified Scotrail drivers out there we could have an HST driving thread?

A family member in Aberdeen has just told me that 'the 125's are in service' claiming that they saw passengers getting off what must have been the 2007 arrival from Edinburgh.
The photo they sent, however, showed coaches in FGW livery, which seems unlikely. Anyone able to verify or otherwise?

There was talk of putting unmodified sets into service, as that is permissible at the moment as PRM-TSI is not yet fully mandatory. So it's quite possible an unmodified set in FGW Dynamic Lines was indeed used.

Can you post the photo?

Ta, that definitely seems to be FGW coaches. Do you know which platform it is? (I'm not familiar with Aberdeen)

Edit: RTT shows the Sleeper as being in 3, which means that's 4, which would suggest it is indeed the 2007 from Edinburgh. I can't see any likely looking test ECS runs it would otherwise have been...

A very low key introduction if true. I wonder if a last minute 158 or 170 failure led to a last minute decision to put it out there?

Pic is platform 4 aberdeen ..and train being used for pssed drivers retention runs

Indeed, and I thought/think it unlikely. But, timing and platform match with the Edinburgh service and passengers were seen disembarking. As the other platform on that island is sleeper ECS, there shouldn't be any confusion there. Curious....

Thanks, it would be most interesting to hear about the challenges, pleasures and vagaries of driving one, but it might be better to wait until later for that - once they're up and running for a while.

Very curious indeed, but most welcome. Can only be either slipping it in under the radar as a wee test to see what happens, or needs-must due to failures elsewhere.....

Having now spoken to my source I'm glad I inserted a note of caution in my posts. Whilst they remain insistent that 'passengers' (staff?) disembarked from the HST, it appears another service arrived that could have been the Edinburgh service. RTT's platforming information may be a little off.

Apologies.

Kind of wouldn't suprise me in a way if they did a soft launch ! Though maybe not , when you look at Scotrails Twitter.

RTT isn't 100% on platforms at every station - but I couldn't see a relevant ECS it could be around that time and it is fairly rare for trains to be missing completely.

That makes sense. My inkling is that the first "official" HST service will be widely fan-fared by SR, with good reason. Albeit there's some inherent risk it may go pear-shaped. However, no-one's really expecting much anytime soon so SR have plenty time to make damn sure the first few public runs are good ones. I hope they so do.

1A81 the 2007 arrival from Edinburgh was 170450. The HST was definitely on driver training - 43036 and 43143 arrived on 2W85 from Dundee at 1837 and departed on 2W86 to Dundee at 2019.

This is a distinct possibility for the future (I believe Inverness will have 2 outbound/inbound HST services from the December timetable change), but traincrew training would be needed before any introduction of slam door stock. The only Conductors who are currently competent on slam door stock (I believe) are the Waverley Conductors who work the LHCS Fife Circle commuter train.

Sounds good - there should be a few more Scotrail drivers trained by then as well
