Someone asked me did I think it was worth going to Paris for the day.
I said it depended on what they wanted to do but if it's just for a quick visit, possibly yes... if they can get a good ticket.
If you enjoy travelling, and get a good price, then yes I'd say so. Perhaps more so in the Summer when you get more daylight hours. Of course it depends on where you are going from too...
I used to do day trips to Paris several times a year, but now I'm the wrong side of 50 and the all nighters at St Pancras were getting a bit too much I tend to instead go for stayovers, out Monday and back Friday.
So if you're young enough then an out early back late day trip.... nothing wrong with it at all. You can cover quite a lot of ground in Paris on a day trip.
Of course, if you are based handily enough for St.Pancras then it's as easy as a day out to Liverpool or Leeds though you do need to book well ahead for decent fares on the trains you want. Think it's worth upgrading to Premier Standard for at least one direction. When you take in to consideration it's £3 for a coffee and £6.50 for a beer on board then additional £30 it costs for Premier Standard for your complimentary drinks and snacks and additional space and comfier seats can make it just about worth it.

I very rarely plan day trips in advance so they never involve E*. That said of the two cities I’d choose Brussels any time, or even better connect on to Antwerp which is nicer by far.
