The 17.57 Leeds to Doncaster will be formed of a 170 tonight instead of a 32x. A day late with the gen as it happened on the Tuesday but informed this service can be formed of a 170 if one is spare due to a shortage of 321's or 322's.

There was a 2-car 150/2 on the 06:57 Don-Lds the other morning, makes a change from that service being cancelled I suppose ...

Did it in the end or is this just wishful thinking considering the set off the 1757 stays at Doncaster and usually gets shunted by Donny crew.
Looks like it was formed off an arrival from Ilkley so this is probably an incorrect post

I believe Northern are desperately short of emu's mainly 333's so the working ones are concentrated on the air/wharf lines with anything they can find on the Doncasters.
Perhaps it's something to do with the 333 refresh program starting in October.
170's although 100mph capable are not too quick off the mark due to there weight so won't be able to keep to emu times. At least they will get out of 1st gear (65mph) on the Doncaster run.

As a colleague of mine at Northern who works in unit rostering gave me the info it wasn't an incorrect post and will happen again when a 170 is spare otherwise the service is cancelled due to a major shortage of 321/2's at the monent.

There was a tractor on the line at Fitzwilliam, which damaged the OHLE, so everything is apparently diesel at the moment. Major dislocation of services for Northern, LNER and XC. Seems XC is going via Pontefract.

The tractor on the line occurred several hours after the 170 worked! The same service was also a 170 the previous evening (August 14th) - anyone know which one?

At the weekend I pottered down to Steeton to catch the 333 to Leeds and was surprised to find a 15x doing it instead. At only 2 carriages it was remarkably tight compared to the usual 4 carriage busy-ness!

I was surprised it wasn't a 321 if a 333 was out for servicing but clearly there was a stock shortage - the guard had been equally surprised but wasn't looking forward to her next few hours shuttling back on forth on a too small train that was losing time at every stop!

Edit: My entire post is, I guess, off-topic albeit tangentially related. My apologies!

The 170 worked the 17.57 Leeds to Doncaster on Tuesday. The tractor brought the tree and overheads down on the Wednesday night

I had a 3-car 158 on a Bradford - Skipton turn a few weeks back.

There are a lot more 321s/322s turning up on Airedale services at the moment. One recent evening there were 3 in Skipton simultaneously.

There's now quite often 2 333s sat on Neville Hill receiving attention.

The May timetable change requires an additional unit on the Airedale/Wharfedale lines due to the increased layovers at Bradford, meaning 15 are required off peak. Throw in the additional peak extras of 2 Ilkley's and a Skipton plus the 2 321/2s required on the Doncaster line (and their one peak extra) means 21 of the 24 EMUs are required Monday-Saturdays which gives very little slack in the fleet and is why the 1718 Leeds-Skipton is a regular for being cancelled
