I have to change travel plans. Have an advance ticket from (say) Carlisle to Aviemore, but now need to stop short at Stirling. I believe I am right that I cannot do so on the advance ticket, but I can break journey at Glasgow, in order to get from Central to Queen Street. So in practice, I could stop short there, and buy a Glasgow - Stirling ticket for the balance of my curtailed journey, correct?
And for the bonus question - the original ticket is first class, but I suspect that I could buy a second class ticket for the Glasgow - Stirling leg but travel first throughout, as the advance ticket only becomes invalid once I step off at Stirling.
