Is that additions to already-refurbed units or a separate tranche of refurbs?
If it’s the latter, then they’re running into the issue I mentioned above of having two levels of 158s, Connect quality and non-Connect quality, losing interoperability.

All 158s will be fully refurbished, some of the 2-car sets may get everything done at once but most of them (and all 3-car sets) will get new seats done separately from the repaint, new toilets etc.

If you don't get vetoed by the DfT for decreasing capacity, like sadly happened on the GWR.

The Northern franchise agreement gives a post-PRM seating capacity requirement for the 150s and 156s. As the ex-FNW ones already have Chapman seating and some of them (both 150s and 156s) had had the Chapman seats 'refurbished' with the addition of some new fold down seats in the wheelchair area, it must be possible to meet that requirement using Chapman seating.

Thanks for the info, I’d be interested in Northern’s reasoning behind this - revisiting such work (even a separate part of it) is usually a sign of delays in delivery of materials e.g seat backs

319372 out in service today. Toilet, door control and PIS mods have been done but still with light blue doors and First colours on the inside. However it's time in store hasn't done the electrics much good as it's somewhat slower off from a stop.

What's the status of 156420 in the tracking table? Just seen it leave Huddersfield in tandem with 155344 on a Leeds via Bradford service (boosted capacity due to Hudds food and drink festival) and it looked freshly refurbished, very clean inside and out, new seat coverings done, the whole shebang. Had a walk through before it left and overheard several people commenting on the "nice new train". Feel for those who didn't realise and boarded the decrepit Leyland unit instead!

I'm not sure whether this is a fault or whether this requires a staff member to select the voice announcements, as I have used a "refurbished" 3 car 158 for example with the CiS showing the calling pattern however no automated announcements were forthcoming.

I've been on a 150 with CIS quite a few times and have not yet been on one service where voice announcements have been made and have only been on one where visual announcements for the next station have been activated, usually they just show the destination and generic messages like about the Northern app. A while back I was on a PRM modified 150 where the call to aid was activated and it kept on auto announcing that the attention of the conductor was required but the conductor didn't do anything about turning off the announcement - which got very annoying after a few minutes.
