Norwood Junction to Darlington

Hello,

I would like to travel to Darlington from Norwood Junction on Monday 30th July around lunchtime. Just wondering if there are any splits that can be done to improve on the Super Off Peak Single fare of £68.70?

There are two Advance tickets left at around £55 for departure at 1308 and changes at St Pancras/Kings Cross and Newark Northgate.

And I think that you can only buy that £68 ticket if you buy a single in the opposite direction at the same time: an ordinary super offpeak single is around £136.

There are also a handful of unsplit Advances left at £81.50

A Super Off-Peak Single is £136.40. Probably your best bet is contactless to Kings Cross, then an Advance fare, if you can stick with a booked train and lose the flexibility.

I find a £65.30 Super Off Peak Single Discounted Kings Cross to Darlo from LNER and in this case a return is not required to complete the sale it seems. [Perhaps an error but it does look possible to buy that ticket.] The Advances are more expensive!

Always worth checking from both origin and KGX when travelling sarf the river up North and most of the time cheaper to split in London if using a discounted London Travelcard etc.

We don't sell SSU currently on our site just SSS with a 50% discount.

Personal interest here as I see Weardale are now running to BIA West with a splendid looking rail car which I’d like to do soon.

The £65.30 is available on the LNER site for London Kings Cross to Darlington, but not for Norwood Junction to Darlington.

On www.lner.co.uk, I can see the £65.30 discounted Super Off-Peak Single London Kings X - Darlington, but there is no discounted Super Off-Peak Single Norwood Jn - Darlington offered, just the £136.40 Super Off-Peak Single.

£71.10 seems rather a lot to pay for the Norwood Jn - St Pancras leg of the journey. Oyster or Contactless charge £4.10 peak or £3 off-peak. A single bought at a ticket office costs £5.40.

Splitting at Doncaster, and travelling Norwood Junc-Blackfriars-Stevange-Doncaster (wait 1/2 hour) - Leeds - Darlington, saves around £18-21. Advance ticket only though.

The 50% discounted SSS is only available from the LNER website and only for journeys that are wholly on LNER services. However, the ticket routeing is the same a the full price ticket so could still be used on Hull Trains or Grand Central for example. The best split is therefore likely to be at Kings Cross, for flexible tickets on a one way journey.
