Does anyone know which are likely to be 80x journeys between Cardiff and Swansea on weekdays and Saturdays??
Saturday week to Torbay isn't it?They wont be in passenger service until 20th August. They are currently running regularly from Stoke Gifford to Penzance for testing and driver training

Some of the trains on that route are extended to Devon this week because of the Newbury block, which means the diagrams concerned cannot be IETs. In turn, some of the HST diagrams not affected will be IETs.Are the diagrams still uncertain due to closers? There was a pair of 800s today on the 1530 Paddington to Western super mare which is not on the main diagrams.
I would like to have a go on one tomorrow or Wednesday evening while I am down in chippenham. I looking at around 1800 to 1900 from chippenham so I'm not to late back.
To expand further on my rushed answer earlier: following departures from Swansea are booked HSTs Monday - Friday:
0354
0529
0559
0659
0729
1229
1449
Following departures from Cardiff (to Swansea) are booked HSTs Monday - Friday:
1050
1250
1825
2025
2124
2229
0119
Saturday services are a bit more fluid at present; but similar proportion of services are HST operated, with HSTs concentrated towards beginning and end of service (to come on/off Landore)
Ok thank you. Got the 1530 today to Bristolmtoday as it was a good run but the seats on a longer mount would possibility be a problem. It also ran as a 5 car from Bristol but with the rear 5 locked out. Are all the platforms shorter than 5 cars after Bristol? Some of the trains on that route are extended to Devon this week because of the Newbury block, which means the diagrams concerned cannot be IETs. Rear 5 locked out from Bristol TM due to platform lengths.
There have been changes to the staffing agreements for the IETs; up-skilled customer hosts can now be deployed in a newly created “Front Set Lead” role that satisfies the requirement for a so-called competent person in both halves of the train. There are a number of competencies involved; but it’s not a safety critical post. AFAIK all customer hosts are being offered the training and most have accepted and undertaken it.
As such running 10 with 5 locked out of use due to staffing issues is virtually a thing of the past now; although I will confess there have been occasions of shortages where catering in the set with the Train Manager in (nominally rear) has been sacrificed to open up the other 5 coaches.
What happens if a 9-car is on a Weston/Taunton stopper?
There is no problem with this, the 9-car train uses SDO in the same way a 2+8 HST would.
But a 5+5 doesn't?
The issue with a 5+5 at those stations is a whole unit will be off the platform - this isn’t currently allowed.
I don't know what it was about but I just saw two class 80x's run past near Cogload junction on the London to Penzance line. This was definitely a non passenger service. Does anybody know if there will be anymore on the PENZANCE to PADDINGTON line in the next few weeks. I am eager to be trackside next time one passes Somerton Ground frame
I'm aware of the service going back to stoke gifford but that is unfortunately going the Bridgewater route
The Realtime Trains diagram was saying it was the 5X22
following a successful trial the plan soon will be to have passengers for bristol/ weston/ taunton in the rear 5, and passengers for intermediate stations in the front. Which will undoubtedly be carnage
Saw the return 5X23 at Exeter, formed 802005+802003.The Realtime Trains diagram was saying it was the 5X22
I think some people have misunderstood what I was asking here. So I shall see if I can find somewhere else when I can get the info about the tests. Btw when I said the line from Penzance to Paddington I didn't mean all the way to Paddington. I meant the line that runs through castle cary and athelney
Well I understood what you meant, and it was very much on topic as unless I am mistaken it was the first run of a production 802 to Devon. As it was an X headcode and a ZZ TOC code, I presume these sets haven't yet been accepted by GWR.I think some people have misunderstood what I was asking here. This morning's run was routed via Westbury. But they don't run through there. On their way from Stoke Gifford they run via Bridgwater
