I've noticed that the last couple of times I've got on the 18:30 Chester-Wrexham (well, Cardiff) service, it's been made from the incoming 17:20 Manchester-Chester train. Is this a regular thing now? It'd be dead handy having an unoffical direct Mcr-Wrx service ... :)

No. Probably changing over units for maintenance especially during the current shortage
