The bus may be driven by Esther McVey who doesn't even sound confident in her ability to do the job o_O

Wilmslow.co.uk said:
Tatton MP Esther McVey, who attended the launch of the community bus scheme at Handforth Dean, said: "This will make such a difference to residents who are unable to get out either because they have no local bus or it doesn't run when they need it. We have such fantastic people in our community who care for others and want to help, not only MAG who are behind the scheme but all the volunteer drivers that are going to make it possible.

"I will be volunteering too but first I want to practice driving the bus passenger free and then I will be ready."

I hope she wasn't "inadvertently misleading" in her claims to become a volunteer. One day when the photographers are about doesn't count!

She'll have plenty of time to volunteer when her ministerial resignation is accepted, or she is sacked. 'Advertently misleading' is incontrovertible if you combine her statement to Parliament on Monday with the report of the watchdog.

I suspect she will try to tough it out (and there is a limit to the number of cabinet departures a government can take).

If the worst comes to the worst and a career change is necessary she could always put her driver training to good use, I'm sure there is a shortage of volunteers for the 26A Town Centre to Bash Street Academy duty.

I think its her own opinion .Lets not say Conservatives.I think her being a volunteer will make her see the reality on the ground.

In Cheshire East there's been a lot of cutbacks to regular bus services with subsided routes either being withdrawn or cut back, this has been implemented by a Conservative led council after a Conservative led government cut back local council budgets. I'm sure the prospect of Esther McVey driving the bus will be off-putting to some. Although, I think you're right about seeing the reality to an extent - the cutting back of subsided buses means more people are reliant on buses driven by volunteers. However, unlike some of the other volunteers McVey won't be able to be as flexible and earns enough that it doesn't really matter to her whether or not she is paid for driving the bus.

Like to see her drive a fully loaded premium fare Euro3 on the 347 in the area she used to launch the disastrous Universal Credit. OTOH if this proves successful TfGM can save money by scrapping the ,312.

Handforth Dean was in a live Universal Credit area before the Chancellor reversed the implementation, it will become a full UC area in a couple of weeks. DWP also closed the local Jobcentre (in Wilmslow) last year.

The problem here is that the launch of a really valuable and needed service is being tarnished by a Secretary of State anxious for some good publicity.

By reversed do you mean halted? AFAIK the original "guinea pigs" in Tameside & Oldham still have to put up with UC

Typing in postcode OL6 9AX

Universal credit in your postcode area
It is not currently possible to make a new claim for universal credit in your area, and you will not be able to make a new claim until roll-out of the ‘full service’ reaches you. See our Future changes section below for more information on the roll-out of the full service.

If you have previously received universal credit in this postcode area or you are planning on making a joint claim with someone already claiming universal credit in this area after 1 January 2018, see Changes to live service from 1 January 2018 from our revenue benefits website for more information.

NB - until 1 January 2018, you could claim universal credit in your area if you met certain gateway conditions. You must: have been aged between 18 and 60 years 6 months; and have met the other gateway conditions.

Future changes
It is expected that the majority of people in your postcode area will be eligible to make a claim for universal credit in the future, with the full service expected to have rolled-out across the UK by the end of 2018. However, the exact date when that will happen in your postcode area has not yet been announced. You can check the government’s latest plan on gov.uk: Universal Credit transition to full service.

From the date that universal credit full service rolls-out to your postcode area, it will not be possible to make a new claim for working tax credit, child tax credit, housing benefit, income support, income-related employment and support allowance or income-based jobseeker’s allowance in your postcode area unless, for housing benefit and tax credits, you (or your partner) have reached state pension credit age, or you have three or more children – see below.

So only those who have been on income based benefits continuously since 31 Dec 2017 will be on UC. It may also be possible for those on UC to sign off and to reapply if they'll be better off under the old system.

I must admit it's not something I (as yet) have personal experience of so don't know the subtleties of it. I have to rely on media reports which stated it was initially introduced in Tameside & Oldham before being extended to Wigan & Warrington
Maybe I shouldn't trust the Media on this subject given the utter nonsense they spout on public transport.

You wouldn't want to be waiting at the stop in a wheelchair if she was driving!
