And why wouldn't it be utilised in the Humberside area? The Hull urban area has a population density comparable to the West Yorkshire conurbation, and public transport resources are seriously under-utilised, mainly due to lack of funding and subsidy at local level.

Something to remember is that WYPTE is funded by a levy on council tax, so yes West Yorkshire has a good transport system, but they pay for it.

Very courageous indeed.

In the early part of this decade a select few local councils offered residents referendums, to vote for alterations in council tax and public services, in their local area. They were given the option between lower council taxes and a cut in public services, a status quo where neither council tax or public services were altered and higher council tax and better public services

In three out of four boroughs voters plumped for the lowest tax option available. In the one borough that did vote for an increase, analysis showed that the borough in question already had disproportionately low council tax already and the referendum vote merely moved that borough into line with others in the surrounding areas.

please can we forget the plane comaprison it was a vague effort at trying to elaborate how extorionate this country is!

To be honest I didn't see any sarcasm in that, just a meaningless comparison.

You could have compared a National Express East Coast AP single from London to Inverness at £14 with a £260 BA flight from London to Manchester bought on the day to demonstrate the opposite point of view, equally irrelevantly.

And if you're claiming this country is a rip-off, you would find exactly the same principle in France if you compare AP TGV fares with walk on Air France tickets, and the same in other countries.

You honestly dont get it. As i said it was a vague effort at trying to show how much of a rip off this country this is, not only with travel fares, but everything!

As I understand it, before the reorganisation of the counties in the early seventies, all of the Ridings of Yorkshire used to converge on York in the centre. Perhaps if they'd dropped York in West rather than North Yorkshire, fares in the area might have been a lot cheaper!
