I will admit, that interior is smart - if only FGW did something like that!

....nice, understated and elegant. could do maybe with more cosy flourishes, and it is very simple, but looks very amenable..

I wasn't expecting to be this impressed with the interior, but I am.. great job!

Are there any airline seats? Being over 6' tall I do prefer to do without the leg-leg intimacy between strangers.

They do look like they've been refurbished to a very high standard though.

I can't wait to travel to London on the refurbished stock. Will it be in (public) use by November?

And, frankly, it makes the idea of travelling to London from Shrewsbury on one of Arriva's 158s even more laughable!!

I have a feeling that the airline seats have been moved to the end of the carriages to facilitate window alignment. This photo showing the back of the seat on the right seems to suggest that. I could of course be very wrong!

There are 4 airline seats at each end of the standard class coach and these are designated the Priority Seats that are required under the Accessibility Regulations. Hence they also have extra leg room. However we are considering removing one pair of these seats for buggies. We have noticed that the wheel chair area on the current vehicles is far more often used by parents with buggies.

They could have - if they'd wanted approximately 50 less Standard Class seats per set!

W&SR have reduced the seating of a TSO back to the original 72 seats.

Personally I think InterCity got the mix right when they did the refurbishment in the mid and late 1980s. Seating was increased to 76 with an even mix of table and airline seats.

Interesting how the original IC70 seats have been kept in Standard Class, but First Class has received brand new seating. Again, personal opinion, I always found the IC80 First Class seat very comfortable, especially with the new seat squabs after refurbishment by Virgin. Can only travel on those on NXEA now in their Mk 3B FOs.

very good thinking! WSMR keep their reputation as the best TOC ive ever travelled with, cant wait to see the stock in action, when is it put into service?

Personally, I agree with helvellyn, its nice to have a mix of airline and table seating. As a lone traveller sometimes, I don't wish to share legroom with somebody else!

Got to give it to you Andy, you have done well with the refurbs...There's abit to much grey for my liking but they do look very smart indeed - though another thing i do find slightly odd are those 'Cheesecake' like glass diving screens in First Class - can i ask why? afterall, there not on the 1 side, only on the 2 seat side...

Also - Has anyone seen the Buffet counter yet? And i do hope the High Back Priority seats arnt the same type as in the ONE Mk3's...

Otherwise looks pretty dam good!

As for the DVT...Itll grow on me for sure, nice to see DVT's back in traffic even if its happening pretty slowly, just wonder what the Mk3's will look like now...Any ideas when theyll be released from Bombarider, Crewe ?

Superb job there. And the FC seats aren't leather - definitely getting some of them when I can!

Oh yeah! Looks pretty good.

It does indeed. Shame it had to go the long way round to get from Wolverton to Wembley. Maybe one day the E-W link will reopen.

The 121s were originally built to haul a fully loaded trailer. Would the 121 be capable of shunting/hauling the DVT over a short distance?

Following some advice in the Dec09 timetable thread and I've found a few additional weekday services, both by WSMR and Arriva. I'm not sure how timetables really work, but surely if I'm able to book tickets with these timings on thetrainline, that means they're confirmed? Have only included workings from Shrewsbury - was easiest and most interesting for me.

----- WSMR -WSMR -WSMR - ATW -- WSMR - WSMR
SHR - 5:52 -- 8:07 -- 9:01 -- 10:24 - 12:07 -- 16:07
MYB -8:57 -- 11:23 - 12:10 --13:36 -- 15:23 -- 19:22

----- WSMR -WSMR - ATW - WSMR - WSMR -WSMR
MYB -6:45 - 12:17 -- 13:15- 15:15 -- 16:33 - 20:03
SHR - 9:58 - 15:32 - 16:20- 18:20 -- 19:34 - 23:10

I have also found a further 11:36 ATW arrival into Marylebone from Welshpool and Newtown but no services from Aber and they're not showing up as services stopping at Shrewsbury.

Interesting nonetheless!

They look excellent - tasteful, restrained, classy, and above all they display an overwhelming impression of a job well done - and so it should be, considering how long it took!

Am already looking forward to a run on them!

Wait, Arriva are starting services to marylebone?

No permission from ORR as been given to commence until full consultation been assesed by the ORR, then another permission
will have to be given by WAG to allow its All Wales Franchise stock to be used out of area, that is beyond Birmingham, this permission
is facing a lot of opposition from A.Ms & M.Ps.

Where did you find the ATW services ?? as they should not be published anywhere in the public domain and they need pulling !!

Just tried the Trainline for 14 Dec and 21 Dec, no tickets are available for Shrewsbury to Marylebone.
