According to one daily paper, this was a fix and by predicting the numbers, directly they were Actually being drawn on the BBC, by use of a split screen television in the same studio.

This is my point exactly!

Do people not realise that every trick any magician has ever done is a 'con' or a 'fix'?

A number of years ago (Back when I was a teenager) I tried to write a program that worked on the basis of looking at every single set of numbers ever drawn, and finding from that six numbers that had not yet won a single prize on the basis that "their turn" ought to be coming up soon...And on a Sinclair 128K, no less!:razz:
Mathematically speaking though, the theory that I was working on is probabally a complete fallacy.
No set of numbers is more likely than another. When it's your lucky night your winnings will vary according to how many others chose the right numbers as well. As some people choose numbers by days of the month (birthdays) your average winnings may be higher if you choose numbers in the 30s and 40s, even if winning itself is no more likely.
Does anyone have a good amount of info on this rumoured 2-for-1 deal that they're going to be doing on the London Eye fairly soon? One of 'em isn't much use to me...But if I can get a hold of a pair, then I can have a go at building the Worlds biggest and fastest Bicycle!:lol:<D
If the offer doesn't go ahead, you could get a regular ferris wheel with the eye, and build a penny-farthing!

I have never watched a bigger load of crap in my entire life. And I saw the first episode of El Dorado.
If I ever get near Derren Brown, he is a dead man.

I'm trying to understand exactly what is meant by thy statement above, but I can't quite seem to grasp the concept of the technique that ye are describing there. :?

Do ye mean that the half of the stage where the ping-pong balls were was actually a looped recording of a bunch of plain ping-pong balls and that the "written" ones we saw were simply filled-in, inserted into place, and the screen then removed so Derren could physically handle them? :?:

Nice idea there Aragon...But I have to admit that if I was going to do it that way around, I'd want the London Aye to be the "Farthing" in that setup...:lol:<D

You are comparing two things which aren't the same. Paul Daniels is a traditional magician, Derren Brown isn't a magician.

If I ever get near Derren Brown, he is a dead man.

What are you? A twelve year old chav?

I bet Derren is scared.

Not having access to C4, I saw this vid on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=urMT8h-3qpc that seems to offer an explanation to how it might have been done. Was this anything like Derren's explanation of how he did it or hasn't he let it be known yet?

No, because he wasted an hour of my life with the most stupid piece of television I have ever seen. All lies and bull****.

Next week, Derren Brown shows us all how to miraculously turn a fruit into a vegetable.
By giving him AIDS...

I.E. whilst the lottery was being drawn on the TV screen on the right hand side with Derren stood in front of it, the left half of the screen where the balls were was a still image rather then live footage. This is a split screen effect as the left hand side is still and the right hand side is live - the illusion would be to make you believe the whole lot is live.

This would allow someone to come on and change the balls with none of the audience being any the wiser as they were not looking at a live image of the balls all the time.

If Derren was to walk over to the balls whilst the still image was being displayed he would have disappeared because the still image of the balls was one where he was on the other side of the screen.

Changing the channel might be quite difficult for some people.

Finding the remote, working out what button does what, trying to stab at it despite being too drunk... oh well, may as watch what's on then.

I didn't really understand the programme last night. It was dissapointing though that he didn't reveal the numbers to those people who were helping him. Even though that clip may have been recorded after the draw there would at least be 25 people to confirm that either way.

Ahh...I understand how it works now! Cheers for clarifying that, Dan! 8)

Assuming that I'm reading thy post correctly, what Derren did was an optical illusion and not a true prediction of the Lotto numbers. Basically - Though it looked to us like he'd already written the numbers on the balls before the show started and that they hadn't been tampered with during the broadcast, in actual fact the balls that we could see were a static image. Studio staff were actually writing the numbers on Derrens balls (:razz::lol:) as the Lotto draw was being made. :)

It's a pity that it turned out to be a simple trick insted of a cunning way of "predicting" the numbers...But as far as sleight of hand goes though, I found it pretty entertaining! 8)

Have you been watching me Jon??

There is also a side by side show on YouTube here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lmxua_V1AcM

Incidentally the news hit here in Hong Kong on Wednesday and about 90% of the locals {as per RTHK} were going to put "those" numbers on the lottery here today but the drawn numbers are 1, 3, 14, 17, 35, 43 (47).

Pass the remote..

It was disappointing {spelling Mojo!!!} though that he didn't reveal the numbers to those people who were helping him.

How could he?, because he had no idea what they were....Nobody does.

What a collosal fluke that was then!
Tonight, I predict the lottery numbers will be 1,2,3,4,5... etc
Odds are exactly the same!
If those numbers come up....
Mathematically speaking, those numbers are no less likely to come up than any other combination. Though it may seem unlikely, think of the number of times that three or four consecutive balls have been drawn out of the seven! 8)
Indeed, I'd stake a lot on 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 coming up in a draw...But only if the first seven balls from a set had been loaded into the draw machine!

As it is I havn't seen this evenings Lotto results yet, but I already know that I've won tonight. How do I know that? Quite simply, I don't play the Lottery at all...And putting aside the thirty or so draws that I played between the ages of 16 and 17 (When the Lottery was still a "new" and interesting thing in this country) I must've saved at least a grand that would've otherwise been spent on Lotto tickets since I stopped playing!:razz:

Did you know they have taken the word 'gullible' out of the dictionary?
I found out about that a good twelve years ago, back when Labour won the 1997CE general erection...;)

To be fair, I've read the papers on Wisdom of Crowd, and other fancy stuff. I hate magicians, and other spiritual crap like that. But he has credibility - I think that the perceived wisdom of a group of people with the 4 (or is it 3?) requirements ie expertise, independence to choose has some weight to it. I'm unsure about the mystic writing or whatever it was, but hey.

I am very much of the opinion that the stunt was not fixed, and the result of randomness.
