Just waiting at Leeds now on the 10.15 to London King's Cross [KGX] and we are still in the station as the lines are blocked due to a plastic bag in the knitting at Fitzwilliam.

Also down are lines between Guiseley and Ilkley and i believe something is up between Darlington and nNwcastle though not sure what.

Anyone know of anything else going sour at the mo?

Its pretty windy up here in the north.

Once the electrification is complete it will be very interesting to see how the overhead handles inclement weather. Given it's built like a brick ****house I'm expecting it to hold up better.

We are well on our way now. 63 late. Good job they got it sorted when they did as with 6 and 7 taken up by trains at Leeds waiting to go to Kings cross, thr inbound was sat in the station throat for about 10 minutes with nowhere to go. This was backing up the bay platforms and anything coming in from bradford interchange.

Once underway we were in a nice queue behind a local service at Bentley near Doncaster and we crawled across the level crossing with the later Leeds departure queued up behind us ao goodness knows how long those barriers were down for.

No further issues since getting past doncaster

Certainly where I am in Yorkshire I at the moment I would call them moderate by Northern England standards, admittedly you can not do much about fallen trees except of course cut them back in the first place

Amusing that they were advising passengers on to the two-carriage Preston to Leeds in order to continue their journey north. Even the passengers saw the funny side and laughed mockingly at the announcement.

If NR have their wits about them, they will cross-refer the downed trees to the predictions on the survey they carried out. If they all show as a high risk, it will bolster the argument that either you carry out some chopping or accept you are going to put up with the inconvenience.

NR have tried to cut back this year, but the political climate is now against it and has stopped.

They need to get back in to the DfT with the data and these incidents and make it clear that they will be clear with the public as to the situation if the DfT block it again. I would go further and say NR should refuse to pay out compensation for any incident involving trees. As soon as you have the data they now have the legal situation changes. The individual tree falls are now highly forseeable. NR has a mitigation strategy that is being blocked. This is now a DfT decision not a NR decision.

I work in sustainability but recognise the urgent need to do some chopping on the rail network. It is nuts to have so many large trees next to an extremely busy operational railway with lots of electricity infrastructure around and it never used to be like this. NR never help themselves though do they. They could have agreed with the DfT a planting of double the trees being taken out either on NR sites sufficiently away from from the rails or on schemes like the Northern Forest or through local community groups along the relevant routes. Taking trees out at scale will affect habitats and reduce carbon absorption and so to just crack on without seeing this coming was entirely stupid of them.
