Not sure about training rate. Pay once qualified was around 45k. Read that on another thread.
You won't get that even after you have passed out.
I'm not at Intermodal no more, but if I can remember, your training money is in the mid 20's, but it's been said, your even lower than mid 20's when doing your rules.....Once you pass out (after routes as well), you go on around 38k for a year, or may be a bit longer, but you will need to clarfy that at the interview . Then you will go up to full salary.
Don't forget....you will not get train travel, so any travel you do, you will have to pay for.
Unless your protected (Britiah Rail) you will not get anything.
You do get a ATOC duty pass once passed out, this allows you to pass on trains for work purposes. This is the downside for newbies on the freight. Pax compaines, you get everything !!
I was never a trainee, I'm an old hand, but I reckon once you have done you local routes at Tilbury (I'm not sure what theirs are) your training should last around 9 months to a year.

Freightliner Intermodal is one of the lowest paid companys out there, for basic pay. If you take Euston Virgin, I think their basic is around 63k, plus Sundays at enhanced rate and if you work RD's you get additional £70 or £75 for signing on for that R/D, you also get loads of perks.Thanks guys much appreciated, seems the money Isn’t as good as what the rumours are, I was told it was around £65K a year based on a 35:5 hour week, I take it there’s no over time or weekend work then??
Freightliner drivers used to earn more than a Euston Virgin driver years ago, so it just goes to show what its like working for a TOC. Look at the difference now.
I do like reading these rumours though. If you done nothing, I suppose with your sign on money of 1800 quid and some rostering overtime and mod payments, I reckon 49k maybe. You can work overtime if it's there, I reckon you could get to late 50's. I was on about 59k but I would put myself out.
You can do HH jobs on their terms and get paid their rate, after you learn possession work etc, but not many IM drivers do this, only the greedy ones.
When I left, I got a basic rise of 16k, which helps towards my pension....Have a look at the aslef site http://www.aslef.org.uk/information.html you will get some idea. If the link does work, go to the site, click Policy and Reserch and then company info.
I'm not knocking Freightliner, I had a laugh there, but they are way behind the times...It's a good stepping stone to get into the railway and its free training !!!

When I did stage 2 before it was the computer based ones followed by mmi which I didn’t end up sitting.. Did you do the dfft on stage 1?
Yes we did the dfft today, weren’t sure if I did okay or not to be honest.. but got through so must have done alright!! Hahaaa! It’s strange really because it’s really difficult to know wether you did alright or not when you walk out of those tests, I was certain I made mistakes but still got through ???!?!?
