My journey between Crewe and Hereford: scenic bits?

Well I don't know a huge amount about ATW other than they had a bit of a headache time 2 years ago due to corrosion on some Class 175's and Class 150's. If a 175 isn't available then they use a 158 - that says how much they want passengers to have a great journey!

In September later this year, I'm thinking of using 2 ATW services - 1 from Birmingham International to Wolverhampton (1 day) and to or from from Crewe - Hereford / Newport on another. All would involve involve using a Rover ticket - a separate ticket if for the Newport bit.

Could someone give me a rough idea if there are great scenic bits between Crewe and Hereford?

The best bit is around Church Stretton where the line runs close to the Long Mynd (hills) on the right and then past Stokesay Castle on the left. South of Hereford the best of the hills are towards Abergavenny. IMO though the whole line is delightful, and underrated, and there's enough railway interest where it's less scenic.
North from Newport is best done with a Business Class Upgrade on the 17xx SX diner to Holyhead, but it's a favourite of mine anyway.
