The difference in bus and coach driving hours is mainly due to the "Stop-start" nature of the bus driving, you are always stopping to pick up or set down passengers. Therefore there is a feeling that fatigue is less likely than monotonous motorway driving. Once you have done any coach driving, however short a time, then you must adhere to coach driving hours for the next 14 days. Regardless of what you are driving.

Ahh, you’re on about EU regs and GB regs. I never drove under the latter so I didn’t bother retaining the information.

Although, because the week is Sunday to Saturday, many people do 10 days on in a row, 4 days off through the Mafia (ie. working Tuesday until the following Thursday).

Similarly, with the advent of Night Tube, some depots union reps have kept the Night drivers on 7 days in a row with three the following week, at certain depots. The Night drivers at these depots do the normal nights Sun-Thu, then do a snip turn starting very late on the Friday (after 12 hours rest) and then another, usually longer, late turn on the Saturday. This isn’t every depot with Nights.

I was going to mention this.
Many TOCs can, with special permission, allow working past the 12 hours but if a safety critical member of staff, they can't do any safety critical work past that 12th hour.

The “special permission” referred to is nothing more than a manager or controller authorising it and filling out a form with some added welfare checks...and you certainly can work safety critical duties past 12hrs in such circumstances...that’s the whole point of breaking Hidden.

Indeed and I have worked an extra 13th hour; my relief was snowbound and I worked the extra hour to see if they could fnd a replacement, on the proviso that they paid for me to stay in a local hotel so that I could get in for my next shift.
After the hour we had to close the line as no-one could get in to the Box.
