The difference in bus and coach driving hours is mainly due to the "Stop-start" nature of the bus driving, you are always stopping to pick up or set down passengers. Therefore there is a feeling that fatigue is less likely than monotonous motorway driving. Once you have done any coach driving, however short a time, then you must adhere to coach driving hours for the next 14 days. Regardless of what you are driving.
This is why bus companies are unwilling to operate long routes, as they then come under coach hours. But it is why you get bus routes split up and through fares and buses, as they then count as two separate bus hours routes!
