Neither is hs2 shall we put diesel on that?
So now you are objecting to what is effectively a new railway being electrified ? What are your views on the means of propulsion for HS2 ?

Jayah's actually right with his assumption for East-West Rail; it's now due to be run by DMUs (at least initially). Seems the curse of Bionic Duckweed strikes again.
Though East-West Rail isn't entirely a new railway, it's joining together various other bits of railway that aren't all electrified. So you're back to deciding whether the additional costs of putting up the wiring (reduced by not being a live railway) are outweighed by the costs of running a Diesel over the usual lifespan of such things.
Whereas for HS2 most bits of the conventional network it will be joined to are already electrified at 25kV and it will be getting a much more intensive service that tilts the balance towards spending CAPEX to avoid OPEX. Plus there aren't any diesels available that can do 360km/hour.
How many vehicles per hour on HS2? I reckon Calder Valley is perhaps 12 per direction, per hour?

Well he's right in the sense that this is the current plan for EWR, not right in the sense that it'a a good idea not to electrify a major new railway with electric mainlines at either end of it, and which crosses 2 other electric mainlines. Jayah, Boiled Egg Features and the discount androis who run the DfT are the only people who think this is a good idea.
