Many European railways now offer the option of printing your ticket at home in A4 size PDF format when booking via their website (indeed that (or downloading the ticket onto your smartphone or tablet) is often the only way to avoid postage charges.
Does anyone know if any countries have a rule against printing tickets on the back of a piece of scrap paper, as long as there is nothing already printed on the side on which you print your ticket? Do any train operators insist that it must be printed on a fresh sheet of paper?
I posted a query about this on the online forum on the DB website, and DB tells me that it doesn't matter in Germany: all that matters is that nothing is already printed on the side on which you print your ticket, and that the barcode is legible so ticket inspectors can scan it.
