Belper To Manchester Via Edale

Hi everyone,

On the 30th June we're planning a day in the Peak District and then a night out in Manchester before returning back to Belper on the Sunday. So in other words the journey is Belper to Edale, Edale to Manchester and then on the Sunday Manchester back to Belper.

Any fares advice would be very welcome!

Hiya there are four middle aged blokes travelling.

EMT's group save offer (not to be confused with Groupsave) has a return for 4 adults from Belper to Manchester at £72.90.

However it's very unclear if you can use that on a Northern service to Edale. It doesn't seem to say you can't anywhere, however I am aware of other cases where there has been a lot of fuss made with the Groupsave offer.

Edit: wait a minute, that looks like it's only available for a Day return unfortunately.

Total for four adults using £39.90 Belper to Hooton SVRs is £159.60.
If Starmill's GroupSave suggestion is valid, then could you not buy two of them in opposite directions and not use the return parts: that still only comes to £145.80!

My best go is: 4x Derbyshire Group Wayfarers @£23, plus 4x New Mills Central to Manchester Northern Duos @£11.50 = £138. You'd have to take the Northern stopper through New Mills in both directions though.
Another option would be 4x Belper to Hooton SVRs @£36.50 = £146.

It seems Northern Duos are only valid for same day return which is not the case here.
See restrictions here where it says "The return journey must be on the date on the ticket".

My plan was to buy two Duos for use on the Saturday, using only the outward portions, then another two for use on Sunday, using only the return portions.

I've now got it down to just around £137 without the faff of having to use multiple tickets or the Northern stopper on the way back. PM sent.

How about buying 2 * Two Together Railcards, especially if you can get cheap with Tesco Clubcard vouchers. You may not get the railcard price fully back, but if you plan a similar trip within the year then you should be quids in
