Hi folks, I'm spending a day bashing Great Western & South Western on the upcoming Bank Holiday in the London/Reading area. Is there any chance anyone knows diagrams for 165/166s for GWR and 158/159s for SWR? I know 165s/166s do the branch lines like Henley, etc but not sure if any go to Paddington these days. Thanks for help, etc in advance

I believe Turbos are still doing the Bedwyns fromy observation out of London Paddington. The TV branches also still use them. 158/159s work ALL West of England services from London Waterloo every 30 minutes - that's the service to Salisbury / Exeter St. David's / Bristol Temple Meads. Hope this helps!

If the OP is stuck in the London/Reading area though? It would be useful if he mentioned his ticketing intentions for "a day's bashing".

Got a Rover ticket that covers just GWR & SWR, arrive into London at 9am and leave London at 8pm

Easiest way to grab the 159s for haulage is probably something like Andover - Basingstoke leaps, in terms of a decent connection at both stations.

The turbos also pop up in Paddington working some of the Oxford fasts, some of which may be extended towards Worcester

If you look at the GWR pocket timetables here - https://www.gwr.com/plan-journey/train-times - a good guide to the odds of seeing a Turbo on things like London-Oxford services is to look for services that do not have a big black blob at the top of the column - the blob basically means the train is booked to be an IET or HST.

Paddington-Bedwyn, Reading-Basingstoke and services starting at Reading for Newbury/Bedwyn are all Turbos - bar I think an HST on a fill-in turn from Paddington to Newbury and back just after the morning peak but that may not run on Monday anyway as it's a bank holiday.

And a word of warning to anyone hoping to get a train to Worcester - whether with GWR or WMR - from Saturday until next Wednesday - a bridge over the Worcester bypass is being replaced to allow for road widening, so best to take a look at what's going on here https://www.gwr.com/travel-updates/planned-engineering/cotswolds2018

Worcester-Hereford is also shut over the weekend.

Cheers for that, how long have Turbos got left on the longer distance work out of Paddington? Will they get replaced by at some point in the near future by IEPs??

Yes they will. Gradual process. May not be till end of year for Bedwyns. Not sure if the siding extension is complete yet
