On the WCML, opposite the Wembley Royal Mail Depot and immediately behind the Bestway warehouse, (possibly known as 'F' Sidings) there is large amount of earthworks going on. I thought at first this was private development but recently there was a Class 37 next to the works with a rake of open wagons being loaded.
Anyone know what is happening at this site? The earth works have been there for years with various amounts of activity taking place.
Thanks.

I believe it's a "virtual quarry" of sorts; Rail Operations Group/Freightliner/Colas Rail Freight all have contracts to move spoil from Barrington Quarry in Cambridgeshire to Wembley. Not sure where the spoil is shipped to after Wembley (or if it is indeed shipped off elsewhere) but the purpose of the stockpiling is clear - it's out from Barrington at least.

That's confused me! I was under the impression that it was building waste from London TO Barrington?

Yes is empties coming back to Willesden. Originally it was being sorted out to become a HS2 spoil dump but i’m not sure if this has been overtaken by the many changes of plan for Euston/HS2.

There has already been a short thread on this somewhere but can't find it at the moment.

The current activity is related to reconfiguring and remediating the site itself rather than it yet being an active 'terminal'.

There is no proper road access for heavy vehicles yet.

Can't say any more.
