First time on the seats in a few weeks, can you get away with having a look around the train etc. or are you stuck (as you're supposed to be) in the seated carriage?
I think whenever i have been on the seats they dont let you bast the buffet the lounge on the inverness portion is usually the next coach and blocked off i think i got let through once to get a wash as the facilities in the seated coach were out of use.

Believe you are stuck as the seats are at the end. Furthest you can get is the counter for the lounge car.

Southbound, it is usually possible to go from the Inverness seats into the Aberdeen / Fort William sleeping coaches (likewise Edinburgh into Glasgow portion) to use the toilets / wash facilities provided the guard isn't in their compartment and stops you. You obviously can't usually go through the lounge car from the seats as the staff will usually stop you. None of the inter-carriage gangways are blocked shut.

Noticed while making a booking this evening that the sleeper website seems to be giving out any reservation it likes, even when choosing a 1st class ticket, it still reserves you a standard berth. Would appear this issue has been ongoing for a while now and still hasn't been resolved.
I've seen or heard most things about bookings on the sleeper, but this was a new one on me.

In the present set up First Class rooms are low numbers 1-8 in each carriage, and Standard 9-12. So if you book online you should know straight away that you've been misallocated into a potentially shared cabin and immediately ask for it to be changed manually. You shouldn't be getting as far as the station and having to negotiate terms.

I've had a chat with two very regular First Class Flexipass bookers and and they'd never come across it either. The only thing we could think of is that it's a hangover from the old numbering system (First Class all odds 1-23, Standard odds and evens 1-24).

As for them not responding to emails, I'm informed that Flexipass regulars are forever emailing following confirmation asking for cabin moves away from above the wheels, or having to get bookings cancelled manually. At the moment you can't choose a cabin or cancel online. Typical email turnround is 2-3 days, but never have they been ignored. They acknowledge that being a 60 times a year user probably puts them up the CS email pecking order however.

I've had this issue 3 times now. Always seems to have been on the Northbound service aswell (don't know if thats just coincidence). Everytime it happens though and I've asked staff about it they don't seem to have a clue, usually end up round half the train before you get atleast a sensible answer.

If there no one that seen you go through to the lounge is there anything to stop you sitting in the lounge?

The lounge is always manned, there’s a sign on the door indicating that seated guests may use the hatch service for a takeaway service only.

Travelled on last night's lowlander between Euston and Glasgow and have to say it was a bit of a disappointment.

Was first class in a solo birth (J02) and the cabin was freezing, breakfast albeit preordered was wrong, the 90 that took us lost time then picked it back up again, and found the staff a bit offish. Asked for breakfast to be served around Carstairs and finally got it luke warm at Motherwell.

Next time I'll go Virgin last thing or in the morning. At £200 for a fare too it was expensive.

I am sorry but when one of your complaints is that you arrived on time I find it difficult to take the others seriously.

They usually ask you what your berth/carriage number is when you sit down.

I think he was complaining about the delay happening in the first place, not about making up time. In any case, what is wrong with a complaint about substandard staff attitude of the wrong pre-ordered breakfast?

So each carriage is effectively being run as a composite now instead of complete carriages for each class?

That's unfortunate as it means I can't now get my favourite berth ( 23 ) on first class.

When I was in the lounge car the other week I overheard a slightly heated discussion with 2 passengers who thought they had booked first class and had email confirmations showing this but it appears they had 2 solo standard berths. I’m not familiar with the newest terminology. Given there was no phone signal they were unable to check this initially.
I thought they had likely made an error in the booking but after reading about these Misallocations I am not so sure.
I know another forum member had a farce with a booking on a northbound trip a couple of days prior.

I did wonder if some carriages were different. For the first time I noticed single numbers on the doors to the first class berths rather than just the 2 numbers of which only 1 bed will be occupied.

There's not any actual practical difference there, is there? Given that a 1st berth is just a Standard one with one of the beds folded up. Unless they were being refused access to the lounge due to it being full of 1st passengers.

I think it was initially there being no space in the lounge that triggered their complaint and surprise but they did manage to move someone to the 4th seat in a bay of 4 to accommodate them. But also the lack of breakfast was something being discussed.
I’m aware the rooms are the same. I think the couple were perhaps overly and unnecessarily disgruntled but the staff attitude that evening on the whole was by far the worst I’ve ever experienced on CS, I’m not sure why. There was only 1 member of staff that was helpful in any way and she seemed to be doing all of the work.

I had an issue with a booking this week. I contacted CS via Twitter and was answered/dealt with within an hour.

Not saying anyone should have to Tweet but it might be a quicker option if email is a 2-3 day response time.

I’ve found emails and tweets to be fairly good. The issues seem to be if you don’t know about them until you turn up and you’re not on the list, or are on the wrong list. Between booking my last trip and collecting my tickets (I booked it 4 months in advance though still booked a flexible one) my card I had used to pay had expired. A reply to an email they sent reminding me of my trip details was all it took to get it sorted.

For those wondering about how carriages are laid out First versus Standard, I've just been informed that plans and room selection have been reinstated on the CS website. I haven't been in myself, but apparently not all mk3s are laid out to the same composite pattern, so my statement of last night about cabin numbers was wrong, and I suspect that this is why there have been problems with First Class bookings ending up in shared berths. You'd just need on coach shifted around at the last minute and confusion ensues...

That might explain a lot. It’s the first time I’d known just the 1 Number on each door. But it’s the first time I’d done a sleeper from Fort William so didn’t know if the same stock did the same run each night (or 2 nights) and therefore I’d never noticed

There are 3 different Mk3a sleeper types in use by Caledonian Sleeper, though I had thought all the non-accessible berths were convertable to Either class as per the original design.

Currently on the southbound highlander. Seats from Fort William, but me and the other two through passengers put into a berth in the aberdeen portion on arrival at edinburgh...not complaining.
92018 on the front.
Royal 67005 arrived with the Inverness portion.

On both my northbound and this journey, half the meal options had run out in the lounge car (or lounge car hatch in my case). That's not so good. No haggis or macaroni for me on either journey.

Something I noticed coming down the West Highland Line this evening...the train wasn't announced on any of the scrolling info displays at the stations. The next scotrail services were there - but it's as if we didn't exist. Odd. If it's part of a Serco effort to pretend that the service is not available for 'day' passengers it's not entirely successful as there were quite a few folk using it to travel down to glasgow - which was good to see.

Do you know what the reason was?
Sorry for not replying sooner but been out of touch. As far as I was aware it was due to the 73 suffering from lack of power out Edinburgh which made us late going north plus a South Bound freight was late so we had to wait for that as well.

I'm on the southbound Highlander as well. We're supposed to be in coach E but that was out of use at Fort William so we were moved to coach G

You got lucky then, did you know in advance that you'd be in a berth from Edinburgh?
