Hi everyone,

I just got an email to do my assessments – I was wondering if anyone have done one or be kind enough to provide some tips/support?

My assessments for a signaller role with Network Rail... were harder than this SJT Test ! Easy, common sense! Just read through them and take your time :)

Guess I can log in on my phone and have a quick peek before booting up the laptop at home? Or will it be once you’re logged in that’s it you have to finish???

It says you can do part of it, save it and finish it later but they recommend you do it all at once. Once you've selected an answer and moved on, you cannot go back

I sent an email to GA yo ask when or if I could apply this morning....awaiting a reply. Good luck to everyone else!!!

Did they get back to you Chanelle? Seems weird no one else has heard anything and you did so quickly, could have been an error?? Seeing as they’ve sent like 4 duplicate emails to some people I wouldn’t put it past them!

Expect to succeed? what does that mean?
I think they took as disliking to my background and education. It didn't help that they were a husband and wife management team at different depots. Didn't seem to bother HR when I queried it being a conflict of interest. They covered each other when I put in a grievance. I definitely going to dumb down my achievements next time I get an interview with a TOC.

I know plenty of people with degrees, and a few engineers and chartered engineers that are in the railway as both drivers and conductors. Neither their education or my own was seen as a problem, in fact it's often taken as evidence of being able to sit and learn new info whilst in a classroom and then performing bookwork at home. A lack of higher education is in no way a sign of who will perform well when learning though, common sense and the willingness to listen, learn and follow instruction are far more important.
The engineers I mention are guys from the O&G industry who made a lot more money abroad and offshore but wanted a better work/life balance by being in their own bed every night and able to spend time with their family.
Coming from that industry it shows a knowledge of safety critical working and I suppose it also shows they're not in it for the money as the salary for a qualified driver is less and they also now have to pay UK tax.
Perhaps you simply didn't come across well in the interview. Perhaps they were indeed unprofessional and did take a disliking towards you for some reason. No matter what the reason for rejection, your achievements will be on your application so unless it's relevant to the question they ask I wouldn't mention it and I never needed to when I secured a driver's role. Being confident when answering questions in an interview is key, a little too confident may be construed as cocky.
All the best with your future endeavours, most people take at least one attempt at DMI before they land the job so don't let it phase you.

Hiya,
I honestly do not know why I was notified so quickly about being unsuccessful:( maybe they thought my SJT score was so low!!! To be honest I thought it was pretty straight forward and gave the most sensible answer while thinking about safety and customer service so to speak! I'm hoping to re-apply as and when I can.......

Seems like they sent the SJE to everyone who has posted here including me.
For anyone interested, it appears to have a 1-week deadline from the day the email is sent.

How far does everyone live from the depots? Could they be basing rejections on this too?

Seems like they are just using the SJT for initial screening. I doubt they'll progress anybody until after the deadline and maybe even a week after when the deadline for final day applicants SJTs are.

I live in Northamptonshire. I'm right around 45 minutes from cambridge but with current roadworks it's a bit longer but that is a temporary issue. I've also put brampton down which is about 25 minutes away, so hopefully I could be based there if that was a possibility

I didn’t see Brampton on the list. Do you mean Huntingdon Station? (Don’t remember seeing that station either. I thought that are great northwestern) ?

They are just nearest stations not depots if you mean the drop down list you had to select....
