Could Manchester Victoria ever be expanded in future?

So am I right in thinking that under the Dec 2019 timetable you describe, Rochdale to Victoria will have 7tph, assuming all will stop. If so, quite a healthy frequency for that route. Definitely helps the case for future wires if so, and I imagine ridership will increase a lot - especially if at that frequency, fast journeys can be made possible. When is the last time signalling or line speed improvements were made?

Linespeeds were raised last year between Rochdale and Newton Heath to 90mph (into Manchester) and 80mph (towards Rochdale) .

Currently on platform 4 at Victoria where the 20:26 is now late due to no platform availability and whoever is in control stacking three sets on top of the 155 at the far end of platform 4.

It's the same on Platforms 5 and 6 with three units stacked on top of each other.

The sooner there's more platforms, the better.

I've just seen a 153 pull x2 150 and x2 156 up and out east of the station.

It appears all the trains from the evening peaks arrive in blocks of three and four on the same platform and then stack up on top of each other until the 153 shifts them.

Does anyone know what is going on at Manchester Victoria?

There's a 142, 158 and a 156 blocking the 155 to Leeds via Bradford.

Nothing is moving.

To summarise: There is very little if any prospect of there ever being extra platform capacity at Victoria. The May timetable change very much shifts the station to being a 'through' operation without trains sitting around blocking platforms as you have witnessed
