Surely if your on a 12hr roster, if your relief doesn’t turn up and there’s no next shift meal relief to cover the desk is closed?

They can invoke the 13th hour rule. The whole shutting desks down is currently a big mess, and quite a hot subject for various reasons at the moment.

Hello!

New to the forum after many hours of browsing.

I am currently at "Application Under Consideration" and have been sat there since 12th December so it is a very long wait to here anything!
The position is for the Lostwithiel box down in the depths of Cornwall but I noticed the position was recently advertised again but this time with a resident role (the initial role was relief)
Does anyone know what may be going on with this or does this happen occasionally with new roles popping up so they just readvertise the whole thing?

Any guidance would be appreciated

Yes sorry that's what meant as in do they just readvertise the entire position again as it is the original advert with the addition of the resident role.
The job applied for under my application has also been updated to reflect this.

This is why it is often advertised that you shouldn't live more than an hour from your location, and you probably wouldnt be taken on in that situation. For your own safety.

Fatigue is a big issue on the railway, 12hr shifts highlight the travelling in problem.

You won't get adequate rest between shifts.

Depends on how desperate they are to fill vacancies, at my location I’d say it’s normal to have at least a 60 minute or more commute either side of your 12hr turn.

12hrs + 2 to get home, + 2 to get back, leaves extremely little margin for error.

There’s at least five I know of who do a 15-16hr round trip on top of a 12hr turn, the firm knew so prior to taking on.

I received an email saying I had passed the assessments but reading this thread (i'm only 6 pages in haha) it looks as though even though I passed I might still not be considered for an interview if my score is not high enough. I just wondered if the 3 unanswered questions will be a massive negative on my score and mean I probably won't get an interview?

I wouldnt worry at all, you have passed the required benchmark for the job you have applied for, I thought I scored awful in mine and I dont think I finished 2 of the tests and still reached the benchmark for the grade I applied for.

Also it doesnt guarantee you an interview, I have applied for 6 jobs, and only had 2 interviews but your score stays on file, so if you apply for other boxes of the same grade, you will go straight to the pool to be considered for assessment 2 (interview).

It's a completely different career path for me and not something i'd ever considered but after looking at the job description and doing a bit of research the job seems like something i'd be really good at and really enjoy

Well I’m currently on my 12th application which I have just sent in and I passed the online benchmark etc and have had no interviews!!! That ranging from grade 3 roles to grade 9!! So my score must really be bad!

I think it case of keep applying and hoping for the best!

Anybody else finding it all a little quiet at the moment? I'm in for a dozen locations, ranging from grade 2 to grade 9 and have had little or no movement on any of them for a couple of months now. The majority are still sat at test completed, with a few sat at application under consideration. I know my test scores are ok as I've been under consideration for a grade 9, so I don't think that there are any issues there. It just seems to have come to a complete stand still lately. I know it's a long old haul, (I've been at it since November and have had a couple of unsuccessful interviews....) but it all just seems to have ground to a complete halt recently? Wondered if anybody else was experiencing similar? Might just be the locations I've applied for, although they cover a good spread across the country to be fair.

Not as many applications as you (I think 3) but yes exactly the same. Nothing at all happens. The earliest is months and months old. I just forget about them now.

I’m at a dozen as well and had 2 turn unsuccessful today. Ive got everything ranging from grade 3 to grade 9, and like you got some since Feb/March sat at test complete.

It Has gone quiet, although it might be the just haven’t updated the website as they have loads of vacancies as well as quite a few signaller roles etc and if what I heard is right (about 200-300 applicants per signaller vacancy) you can see why it takes so long!!!

It a very long haul and at least you’ve had interviews, I can’t even get that!!!! My scores are good enough for a grade 9 role, however other must have even better scores as they are being selected and I’m not!!

Just a case of keep applying and hope for the best!!!

I’ve kinda given up. My scores can’t be reset until August and I’m failing at application stage for grade 2 and 3 jobs. It was my SJT that let me down according to HR. Which is a real disappointment coming from an emergency service back ground. Lost opportunities for good jobs on my doorstep in Cambridge and Ely pretty much so I’ve started pursuing options as a driver with GA and also jobs for TFL and MTR/Crossrail. Might pick Signaller up again in the future if I don’t have any luck there. Best of luck all

It's not just the scores. How you have done in the application form form also is a factor.

You get 1 mark for everything you answer yes to I think

I am finding that as well. However I keep getting the same LOM who so far doesn't want to interview me lol.
