Yes, I was looking at the seat wondering why they couldn't just put them under seats or on the few airline type seats on 450s between the seats like some buses do with usb plugs.

GWR have plenty of rolling stock still about with 'First Great Western' on them , especially the HSTs and it is still evident in some stations. It has been several years since the new 'GWR' brand was introdu ed.

It would have been a simple job when a unit was in for maintenance to simply remove the 'First' and rounded, leaving just 'Great Western' until the unit/power car/carriage is repainted or taken off of lease. Wouldn't have cost too much as no new stickers were being applied and a simple and affective solution to remove the 'First' from the old brand, whilst retaining the 'Great Western' of the current brand.

The key difference with GWR is that it is still operated by First so while it is an outmoded brand it is not one they have immediate pressure to get rid of.

As far as stickers go this is very out of date so will do my best to get all the ones with new logos on noted.

Practically every train refurbishment in the country seems to be running behind schedule at the minute, I suppose it means we get to savour SWT livery that little bit longer.

Any idea how long since they went in for refurbishment?

Given the condition of the paintwork on the Desiros, I'm not sure "savour" is a word I'd use.

The rumour mill at work at suggests Siemens are finding it harder to remove the guards office/buffet and put seating in its place than they first thought.

Removing the buffet in the 444s was part of the previous SWT franchise, I seem to remember it was abandoned as being too difficult/expensive to justify for the small increase in seats.

I know that, but given that 5Z03 is activated as and when required and the first refurb is due back I'd thought it points to my presumption.

Fair enough. I've tried to trace that train backwards and it appears to have originated in Clapham Yard at 9AM and spent a good 4 hours (assuming that the train you saw was running to time) at Windsor before going to Strawberry Hill, which would be an odd thing to do with a freshly refurbished train out of Northam (or Eastleigh)

I think that there is another unit currently getting properly refurbished (I want to say that it is somewhere in the 45003x range). 450111 is still out and about working regular services.

Yes, it's just been reupholstered and the first class seats replaced, but the layout hasn't changed (ie first class remains mid train, guards office remains, etc), and most of the other interior fittings are still SWT - orange grab handles, Stagecoach style stickers, etc.

Didn't realise the 450s were getting different First Class seats, but I knew about the planned seating layout alteration.

Windsor is often used for filming purposes, could well have just been the usual filming activities that SWT/SWR are involved in.

I think the difference is down to the cushion and covering. I had initially thought that the seat frame was different, having assumed that the First class seats were E3000s but with thicker cushioning as in standard class, but it seems that they've always had the same one, and indeed this was discussed way back on page 11. I think I might have also been crossing wires with the 444s which are getting Fisa Leans to replace their first class seats.

I recall reading that the 444 were getting Fish Leans, but the 450 ones really look like completely different seats.

One hopes that the Fisas are more comfortable than they look.

The units done so far, 450111 and 450013, have retained their original Compin seats (the same design as in early Electrostars) in 1st Class.
