I think you’ve missed the point, which is that NR can do things quickly if they put their mind to it. The specifics of what I posted was an example of where they have.

But at the same time, they can only do things quickly if all they've got to do is sign some paperwork.

I can’t tell if this is or is not turning into a NR-bashing discussion. I’m not a structural engineer but I’d imagine that route clearance authorisation must be renewed if the stock type in question hasn’t operated for a certain length of time. I’d imagine it being somewhat akin to route knowledge for drivers.

If the route infrastructure hasn’t changed significantly since the last time the stock operated, great, it’s just a matter of paperwork.

It has been reported elsewhere that 513 is in the process of being low-loadered up to Scotland

It would appear they're going for the odd-numbered units that are still in service with Great Northern, first.

Very much doubt the Cumbernauld’s will be going electric any time soon. I’d imagine they’ll be replacing as many diesels as they can on the E-G route.
it would be a job for a 334. I'm sure the diagram could be squeezed in.

The base white livery stays as is with blue doors added and the spotty satire on the doors with the Scotrail logo in blue in the middle of the coach. Looks very good!

The doors are already pastel blue - so presumably they're going darker blue?

They said last week that a second train would be arriving this weekend. I would like news that a contract had been signed, but presumably they are still 'discussing' with Hitachi when the modified trains CBE delivered, and therefore the duration of the 365 contract.

I don't think the application of vinyls will be the constraining factor when it comes to getting the 365s into service...

They’re not gonna clear the 334s for the E-G via Cumbernauld just for that service in the short term. It’s not exactly a high demand service, not many people want it, so it will probably just have to wait until the 385s come in.

They are very nice units, but starting to look a little tired. Although given the controversial 'prepare people for the 700s' refresh, things are starting to wear. There are many problems with internal gangway doors (was on one recently that had one door missing entirely!), the ball vents for ventilation are mostly broken or inoperative, and they're looking a bit tatty.

Externally they look good though, when cleaned.

I do hope that wherever they finally end up, they're giving a better interior look as there's no reason they can't be made to look as good as new.

On the plus side, they're generally very reliable. A few external problems, showing up in the recent hot weather, but nothing exceptional.

Hopefully a wee spruce up will help matters. Certainly reliabiliy is one of the most important things right now.

Was one heading up to Scotland yesterday evening as I might have seen something looking like a 365 carriage on the M6 between Lancaster & Preston?

How about any 318's for the E-G Cumbernauld? just to do till 385's come in

then again i do enjoy the 156's on the line

Why would ScotRail bother to clear 318s or 334s on the E-G via Cumbernauld for such short term working?

The 365s are coming up to relieve overcrowding on the E-G via Falkirk line until the 385s arrive. The E-G via Cumbernauld is going to be very lightly loaded, there isn’t much demand for it so it’ll not be getting any electrics until the 385s are here I would imagine.

The fact they are raising the 365s and taking a couple of inch of the step boards does suggest it wouldnt fit somewhere
The Networkers (465/466 and 365) are all a bit wider than most other 20m BR designed stock and there were clearance works required on their introduction on the ex SER/LCDR "Kent" route South of the Thames. The Networker not cleared signs* still litter large parts of the adjacent southern (Sussex route) Network

*Blue rectangle with a white square and a red diagonal cross on it.

Hence some real clearance work will be required for them to move to Scotland

... and whilst the clearance work is doubtlessly a one-off cost / nuisance, the slightly more spacious interior will no doubt be appreciated by passengers.

The work going on is to increase the ride height and change the drivers step boards. The problem areas are already known and apparently these mods will resolve it. Remember the 170's have to have their cab steps removed when they go to Kilmarnock for work - it's quite a common issue.

And I saw one going north between Crewe and Warrington this morning while I was heading south on the M6 for the Saphos tour! Unfortunately, as I was driving, I didn't have chance to get the number, although I assume it was one of the driving cars from 513.

The diesels on the Cumbernauld service are contracted to move south at some point.
Scotrail can't just hang on to them, especially if there are EMUs standing around idle..

They might (only might) clear EMUs to work between Glasgow and Cumbernauld but there’s absolutely no chance of a 318 or a 334 being cleared right through past Linlithgow to Edinburgh.

EMU's already work from Glasgow to Cumbernauld, have done for 4 years?

Queen Street Low Level to Cumbernauld, reversing at Springburn. A temporary arrangement until the the E-G via Grahamston service starts.
